my only complaint on my ZE is that the gears are too short (still using the K8 tranny, but with 6 puck clutch and fidanze pressure plate, K8 flywheel) and i've been told to go with a DE tranny. dont get me wrong - the car hauls a-- and the clutch really puts the Hp to the road, but having to shift gears so fast is annoying.
so i guess i'm wondering if your having the same problem, since you say 1-2 go by so fast.
also - where can i get an LSD for my K8 tranny? would it be the same if changed up to the DE tranny?
Oh, I'm running a ZE tranny (millenia). If you want to keep your current K8 transmission you'll need a quaife kit (
expensive.. like $1500). I'd recommend just finding a millenia one.
When I say gears go fast, I mean relative to 3, 4 and 5

no - i dont want to keep my K8 tranny -the gears are too short...so a millenia tranny, eh - that wouldnt be the same as the DE would it? i was told the DE would be the best way to go - but hey -i'm open - i just want a strong tranny with the correct gear ratio for the ZE and be able to fit an LSD as well..

Well, don't quote me on it, but I'm 99% sure all manual K series transmissions are compatible between all cars they come on (ie. MX-3, MX-6, Probe, Millenia, Eunos 300, etc).
Anyone?

as long as its a k series engine the tranny will bolt up, But only a few have different gearing and the only difference in the gearing is the 5th gear, which is taller, that one comes from the 626 manual

I think some have different final drive ratios too, no?

I also have a ZE with LSD... but, it's got special gearing... zx2 gearing and a protege 5th gear. that 5th is way out there...
the car PULLS 1st-4th up to about 85. I don't like passing 6.5k RPM, but in order to catch the powerband in the 5th gear, I have to.
However, my friend owns a Honda Prelude with the 2.2l VTEC 195hp 4cyl.
I took him in a ride in my ZE and he said he's never been in a car that's laid him back on his seat all the way through, past 100mph.
And he drives his Prelude HARD, too.
1st, bam, in the seat. 2nd, bam, in the seat. 3rd, bam, in the seat. 4th isn't as strong, but it still PULLS.
Has SmoothMX3 not been in a ZE? Oh my, when I'm down in alabama, I think I might need to give him a ride!

i get the same responses with my K8 tranny and have had her up to 130+, racing a 2.2 turbo 626. the only time the engine has choked was exactly at 8000 rpms - but when i had my protege - it never choked, even at 8000 rpms and all it had done to it was a pacesetter header and CAI - i wonder if i should just build a tranny, from what your saying about yours....sounds like a winner.

I have to say, I really like the setup. I've had it up to 150MPH, so it's got enough room for go.
It's also proved MUCH faster than the 92-ish TSI AWD Eagle Talon in the whole speed band.
Wiki wrote:TSi AWD models used the same engine but added an intercooled Mitsubishi 14b turbocharger producing 11.06 psi of peak boost from the factory, resulting in 195 horsepower on TSi AWD models.
It had a bit more headroom to go, I think I would top out at 155 or 160, but the rev's were too high for me to feel comfortable.

just a question, although i can imagine what kinda response this will bring...but, reading through this forum has me wondering if 1st gear is even nessesary when running the ZE, if its nothing but wheel spin..has anyone ever tried launching from 2nd? if so what was the outcome...

how did you get a millenia manual transmission? I thought all millenia had automatics (in the states at least). Did they make Millenia manual transmissions somewhere?

Wait, it can't be a millenia transmission as it came on a KLZE with a straight-neck intake. Eunos maybe?

I got my KLZE+LSD trans at Sunrise JDM motors:
http://www.sunrisejdmmotors.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They were a pretty big shop with a lot of JDM imported RHD cars as well.
I don't know if they have any LSD transmissions onhand but when I went there they told me they get them from time to time. Probably best to give them a call.

how much for the ZE trans? i'm being told that i need a DE trans for the longer gears - as opposed to the shorter K8 gears - but if a ZE trans would be better than both....
