Why are people whining about the car's topspeed?....
It was only designed to go 180km with the RS... and it will...barely...
I...Personally love the gearing... 1st a little quick..2nd is strong..3rd is Definetly the best gear....4th is a good highway-speed gear and 5th is a little on the high-revving side...
I'm currently running a fairly healthy 50k KM BP05 N/A through a F-Series Trans and I love it... I'm going to be running low-boost soon enough and I have no plans to go G-Series yet...

Got an '95 RS, 3-chamber flowmaster and CAI, that's all...
I hit 125 on the hwy showing off the MX-3 to my friend, persuading him to buy one himself (it worked) but it does take a while... and don't do it unless it's a ghost of a highway, because it's not smart! ... in fact, it's not smart to go that fast anywheres to be honest....
Anyways, car's got a tiny engine, yes. But In my humble opinion, it's pretty amazing for it's size. Gotta have a manual to make up for the complete lack of torque, but I impressed my brother who's got an RX-8. Shift well and keep it healthy, you'll be surprised what it can do. I sure was!
Plus, brand new v6 eclipse sport package vs. 1.6 MX-3 on windy roads? No competition. Been there, done that. Eclipse almost barrels off the corners at 60, MX-3 cuts through at 75. I have witnesses for that
the car's a small package of pure fun. (and good looks)
that friend who I persuaded to get an MX-3, he called me up a couple days after he got it and told me it gave him the "New girlfriend smile" every time he saw it.

i was clocked at 155 in my mr2 tubby a few years ago.... however, it was an open motorway over here at 3 in the morning so no traffic. but at that speed you don't just lose your license you go to jail ....

It just sucks that this car looks fast but it really isn't....my 1988 Mercury Tracer could beat this car and its the same size engine but you think cause its a later car it would be faster

it really looks to good for its power and age

150mph is scary. My brother and i hit 146 in his stage 2 srt-4 on I-95 traveling to florida from nc, which is about a 300mi unpatrolled stretch. racing(and beating) a trans am at that speed is definitely a rush. but when you start thinking about blowing a tire out at that speed, you start to worry.

You mean you don't have Z or YZ tires? Hell it's harder to find a U or H rating tire with an summer compound...

it had the factory bf goodrich radials on it (which suck, they're too hard of a compound for that car and don't stick) so they were z rated. I was just saying that when you think about something happening at that speed, like an animal running in front of you or something like that, it can be scary.

my dohc could only get up to 115 on a long straight... but held it pretty well. no idea what my bp will be putting with the AWD system but i'm sure before turbo i should easily hit 130
my friend trans am with an ls1 and 100 shot nitrous went up to 186 with me in the car i about lost it, it was pretty scary to be honest , but it was kinda cool too

Well, it's official my mx-3 is dead... over 900 dollars of work put into it and one morning it just wouldn't start, i mean after i took my car into a shop and got my timing adjusted my car wasn't dying or anything, it was awesome but i also noticed that my car seemed slower, like at 25mph i noticed that when i gunned the gas it went up to 35mph and it wasn't shifting or anything(it's an automatic)! It was crazy... anyway the car isn't running anymore and personally i thought my mazda mx-3 sucked anyway...
I'm going to stay far away from mazda(unless it's an rx-7) anyway the parts aren't cheap... i'm maybe looking for something like a Chevy, now those are fast.

Well, I respect your opinion, although I am in love with my MX3 personally.
I do have to question one thing, though. If you are worried about either speed or reliability, why in the WORLD would you say that the RX-7 is the only Mazda you'd like? If you get one of the non-turbo models, they are generally pretty slow. If you get one of the turbo models, they require as much love as a spouse to maintain. Rotaries are touchy as hell, no offense meant or anything I am just wondering why you would prefer that.
Don't get me wrong. The FD3S is my favorite car ever made ^_^. But if your MX3 is a bad experience because you had some speed or reliabilty issues, then I can't see why the RX-7 would seem tempting at all.
Also, Chevy v8s ARE amazing, I agree with that.

Go buy a cavalier then lol see how that works out for you... You think the mx3 is not reliable?! haha!!! Now I am not saying the are the most reliable cars but they are damn sure more reliable then chevys this is coming from a guy who had the unfortunate experience of owning one. It went like this you fix one problem drive for a week and another problem arises you fix that and drive for another week another problem...etc... I agree with you on one thing parts are cheaper for a chevy but keep in my mind that you will buy a lot more parts for it as it will have more issues. Try buying a 13-14 year old chevy and unless it has super low miles it will be way more unreliable then the mx...
PS there are few good performance chevys sure but none of them are in the price of an mx3...(thats why i used a cavalier as a an example and not the corvette)
