Im interested in what model of kia you have taken the axles
and gearbox parts from as i constantly strip third gear
95-97 Kia Sephia in North A. . It's probably going to be called something else in N.Z. The best thing you can do to any internal gears is make them smoother via some finishing process. Knowing what and what not to smooth out is import. In a G series, I've noticed the biggest wear on the clutch hubs on the primary and secondary shafts. They have small teeth, top and bottom that mesh with the gears, either 2nd or 3rd gear as well as 4th and 5th. It is important to know that synchros will not wear like 2 hard pieces of steel clashing together. Synchros are a softer alloy metal.

The Kia trans is the best thing going right now for those that have BP engines IMO.

yes, that is something i have observed as well.

Im possibly going to have to get a custom third gear cut
with less helix angle on it or get a stock gear reheat treated

The current third gear is holding up well, and have also changed
to redline racing gearbox oil so its much lighter.

well for the kia/ mazda trans one set of gears are from a 2000 kia trans the other set are the g-series trans gears the diff is the kia diff not the mazda diff. the axles are form the 2000 kia as well. since the mazda ones are a little smaller. the set of gears on the clutch spline is mazda and kia is the side that meshes with the diff gear. check my work log i have pic there. i tranfered parts from the 2000 kia trans in to the mazda bell housing trans caseing. since the 2000 kia trans will not bolt up to a BP.

i have to take it apart again due the fact that when i was putting it all to gether i didn;t notice that one side of the gears from the open diff moves around so i can put a axle on one side but not the other. if u get what i mean.

i was doing some testing since i had parts to just see what works and what doesn't. by thoery it should work but iam not afraid to try radical stuff to my mazda mx-3. i am a crazy MX-3 fanatic. when i have time i will test to see if the gears all go in and doesn't go boom boom 1/2 mile down the road.
