its not that hard, i did it, i have also taken the tranny out, but not the engine.

done a few honda's never a mazda yet...

my usual plan of attack for minimal dissassembly is:

lower ball joints, pull the axles(already unbolted from the hub), check ALL hoses and wires between engine and firewall, unbolt the linkage and tap out the linkage pin under the boot, Unbolt Main lower crossmember, unbolt motor mounts, support engine with the lift, unbolt trans mounts, pull it all out in 1 piece...

never fails...(only thing would be the driverside axle being locked in place with that metal ring on the inside of the tranny...Prybar get's that...


If your going to use the old tranny or even the new 1 ..Put a srd bronzoil bushing in and make sure you smack that tab so it doesn't come out..they're SO much nicer after 20k

Sorry I was distracted while drinking :P. Can't take out an engine without a couple beers in ya, and maybe that occasional Jack and Coke.
