Personally, I'm still set on that the problem is not the computer, it doesn't make sence that both wired and WiFi connections do not work.

The router probabaly won't list the connection to his computer since it can't do it successfully.

so doesnt that mean that what im sujesting would be the first step?

my roomate has a cable modem going out to the linkysis router and he has a cable going to his p.c. and then i have <port2> cable running to my laptop

Did you try the link speed?

IF you typed IPCONFIG at the command prompt from within windows, do you get ANY results?

IF it just says "windows IP configuration" and drops back to the command prompt, I agree it would be corrupt TCP/IP.

Easiest way is to go into device manager, delete the NIC, and reboot.
It should redetect the card and rebuild the tcp/ip stack.

i finally got the cable to stop syaing limited or no connectivity,but i still cant web serch .
i did the command prompt thing and all it says is" an internall problem has occurred: can not find file specified contact microsoft helpline for furthur help" and then send me back to command prompt so how do rebuild the files and would this allow web searching?

it acually was the way i had it formatted!! i had it as a nap file and not the ntfs file!!! at the time i had bad ram and it wouldnt run for more then 20 mins. so i tried that file to see if it would format and it did but not the right way
