let me insert some steps after "take gasket off" if i may:

1) use gasket remover to help remove old gasket off mating surfaces; use a thin metal scraper.
2) use degreaser to cleanse valve cover, then thoroughly rinse with a garden hose in your backyard; scrub with wire brush
3) NOW apply a small bead of sealant on both sides of the new gasket and put it on.

by the way. i just realized that this topic is in the 4-cyl section.

 :o :)

(am i laughing because i have a v6 and not a 4-cyl, or am i laughing because 80hp must feel pretty sad.)

yup thats it just put it back on hand tighten the valve cover bolts, and reconnect everything. if your car starts up like crap you could of reversed the disty plug wires. but that should be it

or you may have installed the valve covers upside down which would cause interference with the valve train assembly, key indicator here would be an oil leak around the valve covers, heh heh...

we're laughing with you, not at you... :P

oh, yeah, you may want to follow the bolt tightening sequence for the valve cover installation, it has to be in the manual:

1. sequence @ hand-tight (no rachet, just socket and extension)
2. sequence @ half the specified inch/lbs
3. sequence again @ total specified inch/lbs

This will ensure that it covers mate evenly against the head...

does the online manual actually stop at the valve cover?
only what i could really find were instructions for parts that pass the valve cover (that need the valve cover to be removed, you know), but not the valve cover alone, specifically.
what letter and page is it on.

just put everything on in the reverse order you took it off, if you think it looks complicated, get you digital camera and snap a few shots while disassembling, they'll help you put it back together (great for complex vacuum setups), which i don't believe you have...
