Get a 12v photosensor wire it up after the switch. Leave the switch in the on position and move its power source to a position that only comes on when the car is running or is in accesorry position. This way you can manually override the sensor if you want.

But you will only be able to manually override it to the OFF position. You need to be able to override ON as well. What happens if your in a bright car park or tunnel or something? Your lights will go off and you won't be able to turn them on. Not the best way.....
