turbo can be both oil cooled, and water cooled. :)

intercooler is not a must have, tho highly recommended, esp. boost level above 8psi....and intercooler lowers the intake charge temperature and thus lowering the chance of denotation....but it still doesnt eliminates that probability...the best way to eliminate that is to get ur air/fuel ratio right and dont run lean....but having an intercooler can give u an extra margin of error....water injection is another method....but all are just safety insurance...the best way is like i said, get ur mixture right
