its the 4 cylinder but i posted here cause i assume the 6 cylinder is the best swap. what swap will be a direct install with no special requirments? what is the rough cost if this swap?
any one have any info they could provide me?

and yes im reading alot on this car, especially alot of posts you all have thankfully done. :)

this is a great site. thanks guys!
With the 4 Banger mx3 as posted already, your best bet would be the Japanese 323/familia BP-T Engine swap. With the BP-T Engine you have 2 choices:
-GTX (180 hp) from the 1989/90-94 Mazda 323/Familia GTX
-GTR (210 hp) from the 1992-94 Mazda 323/Familia GTR/GT-Ae
-Some of the basics between the 2 engines: -
Turbo - GTX = RHB 5 - VJ20 / 21, GTR = RHF6 - VJ23
Exhaust Manifold - Different castings
Inlet Manifold - Different Castings
Injectors - Larger on GTR and low impedance
Valves - Sodium filled exhaust valves on GTR
Pistons - Stronger on GTR
Con Rods - Stronger on GTR
Clutch - Thicker plate on GTR, same size and clamping pressure
Air Flow Meter - Same size, different electrical spec.
ECU - Differen spec
Oil Sump - Larger drain for Turbo on GTR

The BPD/BP-T is a 4 cylinder, 1.8L (1839cc), 16 valve, DOHC Engine.
GTR Engine is more expensive and is a rare find. By the info given it would seem the better of the BP engines is the GTR but some have had better HP results building up the BPD from the Ford Escort GT (1991-96) and Mazda Protege LX (1990-94) found here in North America.
Swapping the BP-T into your 4 cylinder mx-3 isnt going to be a direct bolt in, you'll need tranny, axels, flywheel (from escort gt or protege lx), upgraded clutch, intercooler, larger fuel pump and injectors ..etc ..etc. there is a good write up on what you'll need in the 4 CYL F.A.Q. section of this website.

Other engine swaps you can attempt are:
-BPD (125 hp) found in 1991-96 Ford Escort GT, 1990-94 Mazda Protege LX and apparently the 1991-96 Mercury Tracer LTS, 1994-97 Mazda Miata and the 1998 Kia Sephia are known to have the BP Engines aswell.
-B6-T (132 hp?) (this swap im not so familiar with but again there is an excelent write up on this swap by Maldo (Chris Malden) in the 4 CYL F.A.Q. section of this website.

There are other options aswell, including a turbo kit for the 4 CYL SOHC MX3. Search this site, you'll come up with plenty of information.

Good luck :)
