WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
Re: WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
First off is your car manual or auto, mine is Manual i did 0-60 in about 8 sec. Stock, also any extra weight in you car slows you down dramatically. you said you had your chick in the car, well in case you don't know now i'm not to sure in this but i think fir every 6 pounds of weight you have extra or loose you gain a 1hp. Let's say you have anohter person with you that weighs 120 pounds that's about 20 hp. don't forget those fools that have bad a-- systems with 100 pound subwoofer boxes. It all matters bro. Do you double clutch it gives me about a 1200 rpm increase instanly, i once hit 70 in second though i was well in the red about 7500 rpm.

Re: WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
I can hit about 32 or 33 mph in first right at 7000 rpm, second allows me about 65.
I do this with 205/55 16s but I have some kind of really great grabbing Cooper tires.
I don't do this very often, just when I get a wild hair. My car has NO mods, just the same V-6 that was in it when I bought it, and extremely well maintained.
Re: WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
mine does over 60 in second! And i would say about 8.5 0-60 is spot on >>> slow but spot on and when i get my KL-ZE i would hope to be running 0-60 in around 7 or less otherwise it's not worth it and i'/m gonna buy a bigger car ...maybe a mitsi gto

the only thing i can think of to make him redline at 30 mph in 2nd would be a VERY badly slipping clutch

Re: WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
ya k8 isnt that slow. i raced (on the track) brand new neon, not sure about what tranny he had, i think manual and i beat him, of course he had gf in pass seat, but she wasnt that fat, actually little hottie
especially i had lost traction in first and was spinning badly while he was going (guy in teg) so id probably would've beat him if i had better tires(mine are bald) and i have leak in couple of oil wells

Re: WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
I guess this sort of fits the topic...
So, what is the correct launch RPM for a GS if I'm looking to accelerate at the fastest pace possible? What RPM should I shift into 2nd? Which RPM for 3rd?

Re: WHATS UP??WITH 0-60?
the correct launch would be as high as your tires could handle before spinning out. It would really vary depending on how much traction you can get with your tires and the road. As far as when to shift, if you really want to go as fast as possible you will need to shift at redline at every gear.

For the shift points, look at the torque curve on page F2-100. The best torque (i.e. the best acceleration) is from about 4400 rpm to 5600 rpm. Ideally, you'd work between those values, but the gear ratios are not close enough, so you sometimes need to go higher than 5600 before you shift, but not all the way to the redline.
If you use the ratios on page J2-003, you can calculate that to hit 4400 in the next gear up, you need to change about:
1st to 2nd - 7900
2nd to 3rd - 6150
3rd to 4th - 5600 (optimum!)
4th to 5th - 5700
Clearly, that's not the best strategy for the first two changes. If you change from 1st at 6200, you hit 3400 in 2nd, and that's about optimum across the curve.
Similarly, if you change from 2nd at 5900, you get 4200 in 3rd, and that's about the best you can achieve.
If you're serious about it, you could mark your rev counter at 6200, 5900 and 5700, and use those points as a guide.
[ August 26, 2003: Message edited by: IanL ]

Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
