Now is this one possible

Post by jcrewsm »

I dont know if anyone has ever attempted this and it would probably cost a small fortune but how about a swap from a 95 mx-3 1.6 L dohc running at aprox 110 hp to a 1.3 L RX-7 turbo rotary engine.......

I wouldn't say that Acosta's car is a MX-3. That is like saying that a funny car is a TA. Marcos' car is a tube frame chassis with a MX-3 fiberglass shell. The shell is the only thing MX-3 on it. The tube chassis allows him to bolt whatever motor he chooses. You are better to keep your MX-3 and start a seperate tube framed drag car project and if you like you could use the MX shell.

i've looked at some posts a while back when this was brought up. if you are going to do the work yourself, it actually wouldn't cost "that" much. you would have to weld in a sub-frame to hold the engine since it's turned 90deg. i can't remember what tranny was to be used but you would need the driveshaft, axle, and split fuel tank from the rwd escort(don't know the years) it was also mentioned that maybe the miata setup would work also. then you would have to rerun you exhaust. but if you had the means to lift the body off the chassis(haveing a lift in your back yard kinda thing) then it shouldn't be too hard

Another option is to use the drivetrain from the miata and bolt a 5.0 in place. The ford motor is a bolt in for the miata tranny. That could create some serious power. YOu would definitely need new brakes and suspension though.
