Performance Parts for the 1.6L DOHC I-4

Post by mistahmoogle »

Hi everyone! I have a 1995 1.6L DOHC 4-Cyl MX-3 RS and really wanna get some horsepower from it! Before everyone jumps the gun, there's one catch! It's a California daily driver. That means all parts have to have that god forsaken CARB approval sticker. (Although I am still interested in any cheap boost projects!) I'm also in college, so the cheaper the better! But anything that's California street legal will help! I'm pretty much assuming there won't be many parts that actually are CARB legal, but if anybody can help me out, thanks!

Soooo... I guess the only way to get decent CARB legal performance is to swap a B6T in, but isn't that against the law for street legal cars in California? I thought that engine swaps had to be from the same model year or newer... So there's no hope for a decently quick DOHC 4-cyl California street legal car... hmmmm...

Nice car. Did it pass smog test with the custom intake and exhaust? Cuz I have a custom fit intake w/ K&N filter in my car right now. Took it to get smogged at this place in San Francisco and they wouldn't do it, cuz it would fail the visual test (under hood modifications without CARB sticker). Eventually, I took it to some place down in Monterey where they did it for me. They didn't check the intake for a sticker and tested it anyways and it passed the emissions. Anyways, I wanted to do it by the book now and avoid a situation like in SF when I have to get another smog check. Hope you never have to go thru that with your car.

Seaside is down by Monterey. It's about 100+ miles south of SF.
