Best Driving Roads in Ontario

Post by RogueWolf »

I do a lot of driving around Ontario, and most of southern Ontario is boring as all sin...

But once you get north of Barrie / Peterborough / Coburg and into the lakes, the roads become fantastic.

If anyone has the chance to drive Dyno Rd. in the North Kawarthas... just try and hold the 80km/h speed limit around those hair pin turns!
That road is fantastic, but there have to be other awesome roads that people have as their favourites.

I did this little trek when I was visiting my family in Kingston, the loop takes around 2 hours... and every inch of it is enjoyable.
The sweeping curves, and the weaving left to right to left, uphills and down... it's fun, and cheaper than going to the track.

A shorter drive is doing the Chandos Lake Loop... this is something that my dad used to do in his '73 Mustang before the laws all changed and doing 50 over would lose your car and licence... Chandos lake is north of peterborough by the little town of Apsley.
The "Drive" . . . aka circuit... starts and ends in Apsley.

Google maps says that it takes around 45 minutes... the unofficial record was set by a guy from Barrie in a FC body RX7... in something like 18 minutes back in the 90's... lets say if anyone tried that stunt today they wouldn't be driving again on public roads.

But that drive is great too... Lots of turns and hills... but also a couple of areas where the speed limit drops from 80 to 60... so ah... yeah... watch that. :-)

So please post some of the best driving roads in Ontario! I personally go out of my way for a fun drive.

Yeah, I used to take the 118 across to the 504... then down Dyno Rd. On the way to Peterborough... Seriously, if you are ever in the area Dyno Rd is something to enjoy.
