Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS - Back on track!
Sleeper6,
If you could find me a KLG4 with that mileage, I would have it shipped my way as soon as possible. Shipping costs money, but 60K is 60K...
The list is pretty straight-forward:
- 06-07 Speed6 calipers(BRACKETS INCLUDED), the bracket is different between the 6 and the speed6, the caliper is the same.
- 06-07 Speed6 rotors/pads
- 1st/2nd Gen Ford Probe(base model!) front spindles - The stub that the strut mounts to is 1/4" thicker than that of the MX-3 spindle, have 3/16" shaved from one side of the casting, and 1/16" from the other.
- 94+ Mx-3 lower balljoints
That's pretty much it.
Oh, and 5 lug wheels...
Thefez,
Thank you kindly! They were the only OEM Mazda 5 lug that appealed to me, and the weight/dimensions were perfect for my goals! I just wish the offset were milder, +50 makes me work harder.

3/16" from the inner or the outer portion?MrMazda92 wrote: - 1st/2nd Gen Ford Probe(base model!) front spindles - The stub that the strut mounts to is 1/4" thicker than that of the MX-3 spindle, have 3/16" shaved from one side of the casting, and 1/16" from the other.

It's actually the mating surface that mounts to the strut itself, where the bolt-holes are visible. IIRC, you remove 3/16" from the rear(towards the hatch), and 1/16" from the front(towards the hood).

Taking a break from this for a while... I need to put my time and money into more important things than a car. May start updating things in a month or two.

Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS
Just noticed today that my left camber plate is bent from my wreck last year.
Greaaattt. Here I thought this damned car would be on the road sometime soon...
Does anybody happen to know if the plates are replaceable individually? I only need the anodized blue part, none of the mounting hardware or the pillowball mounts.

Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS
Is the Mazdaspeed 6 brakecaliper really the same as the regular 6 ???
So it's just the bracket that's on there and the bigger brake disks.

It is 100% identical. At least for the other 06-07 Calipers, the 03-05 are different.
Edit:
The pads, rotors, and brackets are all different. You will NOT be able to source the Speed6 bracket for a cheap price... Honestly, it won't happen.

Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS
Modified power steering system(Manual conversion):
When grinding the seals off of the shaft, I nicked it in 2 places. This is the finished product after hand sanding the hell out of the shaft. I did a final polish job after this...

It took quite a while to properly de-grease and clean this rack. After that, welding the PS line fittings up was a piece of cake.

Organized re-assembly process, look how clean it turned out!

In the end, I did COMPLETELY clean out the rack and all of the components... There isn't a spec of grease, water, de-greaser, or any debris inside the assembly currently. I just tested a dry re-assembly, and everything works as it should... I'm liberally coating it with quality high-temp grease and torquing everything down this evening.

Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS - Manual steering pictures
Baby update, no photos yet.
I picked up a new Probe wheelbearing, so the front end will be ready to go as soon as I find somebody with a press, who won't charge me for the privilege!
I intend to re-use the old dust seal, assuming I can clean it up well enough.
After I get this bearing issue sorted out, bolt the steering rack and tie rods back onto the car, and press extended studs into the Probe hubs... I will once again have a drivable MX-3.
I still need to adjust the ride height after mounting the wheels, to even out the arch gap as best I can. After that, it's time for an alignment...

The pads, rotors and brackets are different between the 03-05 and 06-07 ? Or between 06-07 and mazdaspeed 6 ?

Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS - Suspension Continues...
I can't speak for the rear, as I only did the conversion in the front, so here is what I know 100%:
The 06-07 Mazda6 and Speed6 have the same front calipers.
The 06-07 Mazda6 and Speed6 have DIFFERENT pads, caliper brackets, and rotors.
The 03-05 I can't speak of, because I never got my hands on a set of them.

Re: MrMazda92's '92 GS - End of the line.
After so much time, so much money, and so many unfinished plans... I'm done.
I'll keep the car how it is for now, and sell the performance parts that I haven't used, along with those that I am reverting to stock.
I'll repair and maintain it until it craps out on me, and then I'm moving on.
