I could spend that on an engine and not be satisfied with the results  Still, $34,000 into an MX-3... Mmm, long list of parts:

Coilovers
Colt Tri-Flows
LSD(Not that kind, idiots  )
Bulletproof Trans
Full Standalone MegaSquirt
RWD Conversion - Here's $10,000 by itself, maybe more.
Bigass brakes all 4 corners
Custom J-Spec mini sides and custom lower profile MS bumper replica
Slim visors
Full suede/leather interior in black/gray
Some sexy MS steering wheel
Enkei RPF1s all 4 corners
4 or 5 sets of tires
Traction bars: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=66296&p=472735&hil ... op#p472735

I really could go on all day, this is off the top of my head...

Dude, if you're spending $34k on a car, you don't put the bastard child of engine management on it. Use a DTAFAST or AEM or something... not backyard hack MS.

Aaaaannndddd why not? Chances are I'll be tuning both of my MX-3s myself(mostly), so I don't see any reason the cost of the EMS should matter.

I'd rather dump the savings into a ridiculously lightweight rotating assembly, with loooong rods and short skirted(haha) pistons, and dry sump, then rev it to hell.

Nd, I'm glad you brought up the '8.

I'm interviewing for a new job (making almost 18/hour USD). And if I get this new job I want to get a new car. I'll keep the MX, but want a second car for me to get around in while I mod the heck out of my MX :D

My question is how it handles in the snow? I've heard it sucks, but wanted to know if I got a good set of snow tires for it would that help it out? Or is this a car that just needs to be parked at the first sign of snow?

See I'm trying to decide what kind of car I want to compliment my MX.. and I'm down to:

RX8- (love the styling and performance, not so much the RWD and afraid of it's winter driving ability..)
Mx-5 (same as the RX8, but alo add that I love the hard top convertible, hate it's only a 2 seater.. not practical for me)
WRX (maybe the Sti.. not sure.. but I love the AWD and Turbos, don't like the styling as much as the Mazda's)
Mazda3 4-door (I don't like the hatch which is why I don't want the Mazdaspeed3, also not as powerful as the others, but is better in bad weather and more fuel efficient)

Stock? Are you on crack perhaps?

The 8 is really neat, and you get excellent handling for the price point... but its anemic. There are a bunch of cars under $50k(some under 34) that would molest an 8 at a track (way more at a strip, but thats not where the 8 shines)

STI and EvoX for two easy ones.
4.2L S4 Quattro(more in the $50 range)
Focus RS ($20k range)
370Z (30-40k)
A vast slew of home-made track cars. (some under $10k)
2012 Nissan GT-R (Ha, just kidding, 200k.)

I couldn't see myself in an Mx-5, but it was something that did sit in the back of my mind. , but I just couldn't see myself in one. My idea of something that complimented my car was the complete opposite, the functionality and use, and winter ability of a 4x4 truck. I love the hatch. You want something to compliment the Mx-3, a hatch 3 is very useful for carrying car parts, lol.

Snow? My 8 had never seen snow and will never see snow. I've read that winter tires is a must. Some love driving it in the winter.

Yes and no, lol.

Wanted RWD, rules out the STI & Evo. Would of probably went with an STI swap into a 2-door RS if I went AWD.
Wouldn't get European, not a fan.
Focus, really? Nice car, but for that case, would of stuck with the Mx-3. The RS is available here anyway.
Was seriously contemplating a 350z or a G35, love the motor, but I find they feels heavy compared to the 8, especially in the steering dept.
Home made track cars aren't really street legal, lol

Honestly, and believe it or not, I was seriously looking at getting a 2nd gen Dodge Viper when I was first parting out the Mx-3, seriously. Than I sat in a first gen, and didn't like it, and figured I'd look like some pompus prick driving it. Besides, I can't leave well enough alone. I love modding my cars and with the Viper, there's only a handful of things you can do with it. The 8 is like a blank canvas for me, I can't wait to start on it :D

I just don't know what I want my plans to be. I can't decide if I want to make the MX my Daily driver, or make it into a show car... I feel like it would be eaiser to make the MX into a show car then it would be my RX... plus the rare factor..

but then I can't stand the thought of the RX being snow driven...

so yeah I'm not sure yet.. I may get the RX and get an extra set of rims + snow tires.
