Hey all, My friend is about to sell me his MX3, hopefully for cheap - considering the condition.
He's never taken much care of any vehicle he's owned and if he did it would never be as much care as I like to put into my rides. The car is a 95 I believe, standard package if I'm not mistaken, 4 cylinder auto. No power anything and I don't think the AC works. The car is pretty well in shambles as far as interior is concerned... Its got bits falling off and I think the back seat is composed nearly entirely of duct tape.
As an artistic type, you can imagine that I'm the type hung up on aesthetic detail. In that... this car is a nightmare. In my eyes, hardly worth salvaging, BUT, so long as I'm gonna drive it it has to look damn good.
So to start, I'm looking for suggestions, sites aftermarket parts, lights, keyless ignition... really anything thats gonna set this thing apart from everything else.
There you have the "What" part of the tour.
And now, on to the rest.
I'm never one interested in spending a boat load of cash at once or ever, so I'm looking for a bargain with any of the parts I get my hands on.
For now, I'm only interested in a few things as I'm looking to sink more than enough cash into just replacing regular parts on the damn thing - Those things I would like to buy are the very same that I would like to know if they even exist for this vehicle, mind you, NOT stock parts here,
Dash board, center console, gauge cluster.
Thats it for now. Got more than enough parts on the interior to replace, so I figured I'd start with an oil change, then move on to makin' 'er pretty again.
I call 'er Vera.
Anyone still reading after being slammed with that wall of text?

you should be able to find some nice seats at a wrecker. the ones from the 92/93 are very sporty/comfortable compared to the later years. check ebay for gauge covers. for interior mods your pretty much going to have to think of something and do it yourself. theres always different pedals and shift knobs. check peoples worklogs for ideas.
with the car in the condition you describe and what you seem to want it to look like itd probably be alot easier to get one thats in better condition. if thats not reasonable then put in some elbow grease and start cleaning...
you can replace the headliner fabric with something more appealing. paint dash/interior panels to any colour you want. check appearance section for a thread i made on custom floor panels. its your car decide what you want to do... i modded a 3 power+usb adapter into my center consol.
my interior was also a mess when i bought my car. i had to shampoo it twice to get the junk out of the carpet. armrest was full of some kind of syrupy gunk. seat was ripped up pretty bad. took a long time to get it looking decent but im happy with how it looks now.

Yeah, you're gonna want to start with the "Wendy's", and "Crack drink" mods. From there, it's an open canvas
BUt really; I agree with checking out worklogs, and if you see something you like that isn't explained, search it. I like to see MX-3s saved, and nursed back!

Another thing to note about the car is if you are keeping it auto, make sure that you are religious with ATX fluid/filter changes, and that you baby that transmission... I destroyed my first auto tranny without even trying, and my second one is on its way out.. the automatic transmission in these cars are junk, and most people just convert over to manual (which is what I'm doing with my car).
as for interior mods.. Painting the plastic interior is a start.. the headliner comes out easily and so you can customize it with your own fabric.. you could also change up the carpet..
they already said about the custom gauge covers.. I was looking earlier into an "LED Modified cluster" but the company never really got back to me and the group buy i was trying to make failed.. though there is another member on here I need to get in touch with.. I'll be PM'ing him shortly now that I thought about it for that.
Seats.. there are always seats on eBay.. I'm personally getting mine re-upholstered.. they have some tears and so I've been using a seat cover, but I'm just going to get mine re-done.. a place over here quoted me @ 400.00 for the front seats to complete re-do them with blue/silver.
Other then that not really sure.. there are always things you can do.. as people said look @ work logs and stuff!
