auto tranny/torque converter help
hey, im working on a 92 gs with a auto tranny, not having a auto for 4 years now im not too familliar with them. the car only engages when you rev the car up and keep the rpm high. what are the odds of the actual tranny being faulty. the toque converter is almost brand new, is there some way of seeing if this is still good? im pretty sure its the torque converter but not too sure, thanks.

Re: auto tranny/torque converter help
I don't know a whole lot about autos either. But as far as I know the torque converter needs hydraulic pressure to work. Make sure that your transmission fluid is topped off.

Re: auto tranny/torque converter help
well i think the tranny was fine but my buddy dropped the spider gears out of it and i didnt want to rip it apart so i used my old auto when i swapped over to manual. bought a new torque converter and it works great now, what was happening was it would only engage when the motor was reved and it would catch, low rpm and the converter would not work. when i cooked mine from the ze the same thing happened but not as bad, it would slip in and out when it was trying to shift up while driving. the torque converter i pulled out of the tranny was almost brand new but the kid was doing alot of tranny drops hence the two bald front tires and burnt tranny fluid.
