weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
i finally got my bp engine installed today altho im having some issues. my check engine light is on steady, its has a rough idle and when u push the clutch the speedometer goes all weird. also the engine temp guage doesnt move.. from what ive read through forums ive hooked up the injector harness to the best of my knowledge. im using the b6 injector harness on the bp, im also using the f series tranny/clutch setup. another thing theres a small clip that slides over somethin thats attatched to the injector harness, does that have to go to somethin? i looked all around but couldnt find it. as far as the other issues does anyone have an idea whats causin that?

could part of the reason be due to the o2 sensor? the wires looks kinda chewed..

k so i was readin on here to use 10 and ground to get the engine codes..where exactly is that? the fuse box? also i tried searchin for codes online and it kept comin up as numbers rather then how many blinks..anyone know where i can find these codes?

Re: weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
i ran the test to check the codes and i got codes 15 which i believe is 02 sensor or circuit, 28 egr vacume, 29 egr vent, 41 vris #1 and 16 egr valve position. does those sound right? i however didnt get a code for the temp guage, it doesnt even move. any suggestions? as far as everything else im clueless what to do. any help? also one other thing..those solenoids from the b6 engine has several that looks the same and some that dont, besides the obvious looks..is there difference between them? maybe i have the wrong ones..

Take off the battery negative cable and push the brake pedal for about 30 seconds. This will reset the computer and erase any old codes that are not applicable. Then drive around for a bit and check for codes again.
The temperature sensor for the gauge is separate from the ecu - it is located next to the thermostat i think. It looks like a ground pin sticking out - but its actually a sensor. Make sure you have that plugged in - i think the wire color is Black with Orange stripe.

hey thanks for the help, i replaced my o2 sensor today and that code is gone, i unhooked the negative terminal from the battery and pressed the brake for 30 secs and the codes are still there...i thought the v.r.i.s. was on the v6 engines? hmm.. i took my car for a drive tonight and noticed sparks shootin from my exhaust. any idea what that is? also i noticed my right taillight, and heat doesnt work in the car..hmm im startin to get annoyed with these problems. when i take it for a drive it sounds like it has a 350 engine in it, but when i down shift it sounds normal. possible the thermostate stuck open and timing could be off? as far as the tail light not workin i dunno.. any more advice? oh btw im runnin premium gas if that makes a diff. synthetic oils too..

Re: weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
did you label every plug before you removed the engine?
I would check and make sure the temp sensor on the intake (should be on the drivers side of the head), is plugged in.
Make sure you have the V.I.C.S. solenoid connected. If you are using the B6 harness you will have to run one wire to the BP ecu, and the other to the ground wire in the injector harness. (the solenoid is on the passenger side of the intake manifold).
I'd replace the thermostat or at least make sure it is in the right way.
and also check all the connectors over again (I beleive there is a sensor at the back that is hard to see, above or beside the oil filter)
good luck!!!! And don't forget to replace the grounds for the block and transmission!!!

If theres no heat - either the coolant lines are not connected or the thermostat is stuck closed. Better check that out soon because the engine will overheat in that situation.
It looks like you have codes for every possible solenoid there is in the engine - are you sure your wiring is right? You have to take the injector harness out of the B6 engine (possibly with all the solenoids) and use it on the BP engine. If you are using the right harness and solenoids - none of the codes should exist.
With all those codes the computer will run in default mode or limp home mode - it will disregard most sensor values and use default values just enough to get you to a place where you can fix the engine. Running the engine in this mode for a long time is not recommended and will potentially damage the engine.....

Re: weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
where model and make u get the BP from and ur better off with a BP harness. No hacking and spicing as what u had to do with ur current sohc harness.. i assume u have a BP ecu or are u running the sohc ecu.

Re: weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
hey thanks again for the info. im using a b6 ecu and wiring harness. i changed the thermostate today with the one from the b6 and also the temp sensor guage, still not workin.. i however noticed there was no coolant in the lines, so i gotta wait till tomorrow to get some coolant and ill let ya know on that situation. as far as the wiring to the solenoids..im completly clueless with what goes were for the injector harness. i was readin here somewhere to use white and the brown plugs for the vcis..but im not sure what solenoids. are they the same besides physical looks? this wire u speak of that has to ground and plug into the ecu..where bout does that go? this solenoid thats on the back of the engine, what is that for excactly? and im not sure what bp i have, all i know its got japanese writing on the cam cover and it looks like a b6. guessin from a new gen protege? 95-99?

take a pi and where the thermostate is located see if u see bp07 or along these lines.

its late right now but i thought it said bp05..but not 100% sure. its jus one thing after another..runnin outa money and i need my car for work. im takin it to a mechanic on tue. altho i dont like doin that but right now im runnin outa options. theres like the right taillight that works sometimes, but the signal works all the time. the reverse lights on both dont work, shootin sparks from the exhaust, rumblin like its a big block hemi or somethin but downshift is fine, grr i dunno what else.

just use a BP harness and ecu instead of going through headaches making the sohc harness and ecu work..zoomzoom wrote:its late right now but i thought it said bp05..but not 100% sure. its jus one thing after another..runnin outa money and i need my car for work. im takin it to a mechanic on tue. altho i dont like doin that but right now im runnin outa options. theres like the right taillight that works sometimes, but the signal works all the time. the reverse lights on both dont work, shootin sparks from the exhaust, rumblin like its a big block hemi or somethin but downshift is fine, grr i dunno what else.
that what i did when i did the bp swap cause i was trying to be cheap.. snag one from a 90-93 pro lx and was plug and play..

Re: weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
the b6 injector harness im using is from the dohc.. how much did it cost ya for the wiring harness and ecu from the protege?

Re: weird things happening after bp swap need help!!
note: a BP05 engine will run like balls with the B6 ECU, get a BP ecu at least!!!!! the B6 harness will work without any splicing, plug and play (you just won't have VICS).
