raspy exhaust

Post by fritzfab »

i have a gs stock motor and i recently removed my cat converter and put on a flow master type muffler, my question is when i accelerate any rpm's over 3 grand i get a high pitch rasp (sounds like a honda to tell you the truth) and it annoys the hell out of me i know it didnt make the noise before i took off the cat but now it does , is that because i removed the cat cuz i tried 2 different mufflers, they were both similar sounding and different types of mufflers, any help would be greatly appreciated

The Flow Masters have a metalic sound to them. It has been my only complaint about the F-M since I got mine put on. Without a cat the sound will be more evident. I suggest putting the cat back on. Newer high flow cats do not detract that much from the HP numbers.

its wierd because with the stock piping with just a muffler i heard the muffler from 0 to 3500 rpms and anythign higher was all engine, but whne i put on the new muffler and took the cat out i can hear the exhaust and now it feels like the car has that little boost of HP but its puttin out so much air flow that it sounds like its poppin in the muffler and i tried it with a different muffler one thats not a flow master and it gave me a supra type sound lol and in the higher rpms same thing a raspy sound its confusing because i have the resonator on there still and i know they dont really muffle anything but the cat removal really made the sound so ricer like, is it more efficient to just put the cat back on and deal with the loss or HP or should i just say screw it all and get a KLZE and be done witht he problem lol

Is it legal to drive without a cat there?

I'd say put it back on anyway. Better for the environment, better sound, and probably won't lose too much power. If you don't have a ZE, there's no point in gaining a couple of horses. You're still crawling, just a bit quicker.

Install the cat and also have a resonator welded inline with your piping somewhere.
