Replacing Rear Calipers with Front Calipers (?)

Replacing Rear Calipers with Front Calipers (?)

The rear brake calipers on the GS are as flat as most of your girlfriends, and aren't as masculine and thick as the front brake calipers. I refuse to apply caliper paint on them. The front calipers deserve caliper paint, but not the rears ... Can I swap in front calipers from a junkyard GS to replace them? The look would be consistent

well i'm talking about replacement of the said items with little to no modification, since, for some reason, i thought that the rear calipers couldn't be attached too differently than the front ones ... )?( ... and that's why i'm asking for everyone else's know-how, that's why i posted this message

well, the rear discs are solid and a lot thinner than the front discs.
That means you would need to use front discs too, and that would probably mean trouble mounting everything up.

take a front one off and see if it bolts up with the front rotor, if not it wont work and if it does your gonna mess up your braking balance hardcore with that setup

plus there is no real weight behind the rear tires of the car......

thats why they are smaller

If you're ricer enough to paint your brake calipers, it really doesn't matter if they look high performance unpainted.

You know that you are an accident waiting to happen. Enough with the "Bling" and consider public saftey. It is no wonder that tuner car get a bad name with modification made in the name of looks.

I was talking about you with my cousin that was out there on the island before for he was tranfers to another detachment. I guess his old co-worker might be keeping an eye out for MX-3s based on the descriptions of your car that you have post in past messages

they sell fiberglass and plastic Brembo caliper covers on E-bay.

lol

no seriously, without a porportioning valve and a larger master cylinder, doing that swap is a bad idea.

you could always try and find some EVO Brembo's they go for around 300 to 500 on ebay, for front and rear. would be a nice upgrade. been thinkin about it myself but now i have better plans :)

you also need to think how you're going to attach ebrake cable to calipers.

funny you say that. i got into two accidents this week. funny thing is that the second accident was a no-brainer: i was stopped at a red light, guy reverses from his parking spot on the side of the road (not parallel parking spots obviously) and hits the left side of my car despite me holding down the horn as soon as i noticed him reversing out of his stall ... big dent on the side of my car. your friend's old coworker can look for a red mx3 with hyperblack rims on it, often parked downtown.. that is, if icbc decides to write it off or not ... i duno. i never been in an accident in 6 years. this is a whole new process for me ... i blame the snow

and i didnt see any bling factor by replacing the rear calipers with the front calipers. it's all in the name of consistency, for the existing rear calipers are just that: flat and ugly. this truth is undeniable. and by me suggesting to replace the rear calipers with the front ones isn't much of an offense against safety: the topic ended as soon as one of the replies immediately negated the possibility of the front calipers fitting to the rear assembly at all ... safety concerns would've been brought up shortly after had this modification been deemed plausible, but since not, my worthless comments were unleashed. eg, "smaller and ugly"

the ebrake isn't a big deal to loose actually... there was a scion company that sold a rear kit that allowed you to take the front calipers and put them on the rears to improve braking.

i need better brakes in the rear of my mx-3 so i'm considering all options i run across... i'm guess since mine will almost purely be race and show i won't lament the loss of the ebrake but we'll see...

you might want to chill a little bit though dude your posts are somewhat offensive at times and you seem a little high strung at times. and when you make comments that looks are far more important than functionality and improved performance then people are going to flame you for it

i personally think the idea is worth looking into and if the proper modifications are done it could be worth it

i painted mine, whats so wrong with that

and needing more braking in the rear of the car? why, the rear does 30% of the stopping anyway

well since i'm doing an AWD conversion I have more power in the rear (going from 0whp in the rear to over 100 whp kind of a big jump don't you think?) plus adding weight to the rear thus the rears will need more stopping power than originally alloted to them
