This why NOT to buy cheap ebay coilovers.
i bought and installed DZ lowering springs, their awsome as far as fit look and lowering. Their not coil overs but the fit vert well. Payed $88.00 with shipping. However i have no idea about handling. i still havent been able to get my MSnS installed to get a chance to drive it. It lowerd my car almost 2 inches. i like the look but im real conserned my 16 inch rims i got off e-bay are going to fit. Looks to me like the rims going to be to big in the strut. Im planning on running 205/60/16. God help me if they dont work.

eibach racing springs that come on gc coilovers are very high quality.Custommx3 wrote:Is this your 1st lowered car?
Good springs do not bounce. Ive used Intrax, James, and Suspension techniques on all 3 of the mx-3's Ive owned. A local guy put those on his car and I rode in it, and it bounced like it had no shocks, just bouncy springs.
any spring will bounce if it is not properly dampened or paired with a dead damper. using a 500# ers spring with a brand new zx2 strut will bounce also.
not trying to start an arguement but the cheapo ebay coilovers have very short springs so they gotta make up for it by increasing spring rate. increasing spring rate of course in turns reduces ride quality. i am very sure that even tho they are cheapo coilovers, they have firmer spring rates than any ots lowering spring. firmer spring rates are manditory in order to use shorter springs and to keep from bottoming out your struts or shocks.
its a basic suspension theory that most people apply to any car. firmer spring rates are also necessary to reduce the amount of travel the suspension sees during bumps. by reducing the amount of travel the suspension sees during bumps you will not have as much bump steer. bump steer is caused by toe changes during suspension compression or rebound on a car lowered past the point where its control arms are no longer parallel with flat ground.
best suspension performance is when your control arms are parallel with the ground. lowering more than that without increasing spring rates drastically will create excessive body roll which must also be cured by using even stiffer springs. btw, at stock height the front and rear control arms are parallel with the ground
firmer springs need a proper damper. underdampened springs to the regular joe will feel harsh bouncy where as a properly dampened spring will feel rough.
the biggest reason i wouldnt buy ebay coilovers is because i wouldnt know what spring rates they come with in order to properly build a damper that can handle those rates. second is because there is no helper spring to keep the real spring properly seated if the suspension is at full droop. that is definately not safe to drive unless that issue is fixed. other than that i dont see the problem with ebay coilovers if thats what you want.
