Make sure to have TEN and GND jumpered (a paperclip works fine) on your diagnostic box before you make any adjustments to the Idle Speed control screw. Once you have adjusted the idle to the desired speed.. simply pull out the paperclip. Note: Remove the paperclip WHILE the car is running. If you shut the car down before you remove the Paperclip the ECU will NOT record the change and it will default back to stock specifications. Hope this helps.try turning down the idle with the idle screw on top of the throttle body...I solved the same problem on my motor by turning the idle screw inwards!!!
Note: More information on this topic can be learned from the online shop manual. Located on the left of the main http://www.mx-3.com home page.

Turning it down would help my rpm while in park , but when it's in Drive the rpm dives extremely low and sometimes shuts down and lights some indicators, the car starts up again quickly though. So wouldn't lowring the idle actually make matters worse when I'm in drive?Joey's mx wrote:try turning down the idle with the idle screw on top of the throttle body...I solved the same problem on my motor by turning the idle screw inwards!!!
Is it possible my idle mixture is wrong? ..altough I get some weird rpm behavior whil driving. ...Since I don't have any tools I might check the air hoses and such and try to get it to a garage and get an estimate. I'll post back the results.

I would also recommend that you run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through your next 2 tanks of gas. I would do this before making any idle changes.. if your injectors are gummed up.. you could get random pulses and surges as well as low fuel flow at idle speeds. When I had my fuel injectors flow tested a while back.. I found that 1 was very bad and I ended up having a spare set rebuilt and installed. I would also have to say that using the cheapest gas out there doesnt do your fuel system any favors. I am not talking about octane rating.. just quality fuel. If you fill up at your local 7-11.. well they arent all that well known for keeping their tanks and pumps clean like a normal service station does. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tunes, I'll do this. Thanks for the tip.Tunes67 wrote:I would also recommend that you run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through your next 2 tanks of gas. I think it might be the sensor too, now that I remeber before the idle got adjusted sometimes the car would stall sometimes at low speeds, I had to hit the gas hard so the car would get a boost..I took it to a filthy garage today and the guy just lowered my idle speed , drove it a while and said he didn't see a problem. He didn't check the intake manifold, throttle , air hoses, nothing ... The owner was asking me if I was satisfied and if the car was fixed ..I was like wtf? Nothing was done to the car, I could have done that , I just didn't becuase I would just bring it back as it was before (car was stalling and shutting down) so I left. ...I think it might be the sensor or my throttle is clogged up. Dunno, I know very little about cars , I'm learning a few things now (reading a book, websites, etc)Joey's mx wrote:when you are driving that would be the tps sensor thatis causing the problems!!!
This site has also been extremely helpfull.

check the vacuum line that goes from the Brake booster to the Throttle body. It could cause the car to act like that.
Did you reset the ECU when adjusting the idle? The process for doing so is in the online manual that someone point you toward before.

Overdue update:
Thanks everyone for all the help. I haven't posted an update as I was having some personal problems and couldn't deal with the car.
Well here it is , I took the car to a garage and the guy instead of adjusting the AA screw he adjusted another screw on the throttle, I forgot how to call it , but its the screw on top of the part of the throttle that moves when you accelerate the car. The RPM's went to somewhat more normal levels around 750 and the car stopped shutting itself down when idle which was great. But after a few weeks I started having another even more serious problem. Now when accelerating the car, almost always I get very little or no acceleration, I will push the gas and I can see the RPM gauge go high to about 3,000 but the car doesn't pass 25 mph!! , only after driving like this for a while will the car sometimes boost past that and the transmission gears start to behave better. yesterday I decided I might try adjusting the air adjusting screw properly to see if it helps but didn't ....here's what I did:
I adjusted the air adjusting screw and followed the instructions in the shop manual including resetting the ECU with a jumper wire. But when I did this I noticed something pretty strange, when grounding the TEN terminal the RPM in Park went up to about a 1,000 and pretty much stayed there no matter how much I turned the AAS, I would have to turn it A LOT in order to see just a slight difference either way, after taking out the ground the rpms pretty much went back to the way it was before. And after doing this I noticed a pretty big puddle of oil under the car to the right side front.
I still have the same problem , Before I had this problem I only did 3 things with the car, one was an oil change, the second I took out the air filter but it was good so it stayed , and lastly I dumped some fuel injector cleaner in 2 consecutive tanks.
What do you guys think the problem may be? I sure hope it's not the transmission ...is it possible its some sensor or something alike?
Or maybe it's time to bite the big one and get a new car?
Please any help is appreciated!
