I have wondered if the MX3 is capable of pullling a small load and have considered a hitch. Is it permanent mount or can it be taken off when needed? Do you have pictures of it on the car?

Thanks

Nope I don't have a picture of it on my car... My Mx3 was hit by a drunk driver on the front so I’m just selling parts from it. If you PM I can take a pic. For you of the hitch. The hitch just like the link I posted... You can only take the tongue off and on the hitch is meant to stay on the car.

I'll try and scare up some old pics of my (same make) trailer hitch and email them to you (neee your email addy). I had my hitch on for 10 years and hauled my 4' x 4' mini utility trailer with my Ducati on it. It was no big chore for the GS as I mad it out to the west coast and back a few times. As a matter of fact I went through 2 similar trailers in that time period on the same hitch. It utilizes 4 bolts - 2 that have to be drilled though the rear floor and the other 2 bolt to existing moutning points. This hitch makes accomodation for the muffler without having to do any mods whatsoever. Tongue weight was rated around 200 to 250lbs. Trailer and Ducati weighed about 600lbs total. Hope this helps.

Thanks, JS

I was thinking of doing the same thing and haul my Mean Streak around. But that weighs 630 lbs by itself then to add the weight of the trailer all tugged by my little 4 cylinder MX3. Therefore, I think this would be too much for it to handle. I would hate to have tranny problems, or any other problems later on.

I understand your perdicament. I think that the 4cyl should be able to handle a small utility trailer (mine's 4' x 4') with a moderate load for short general duty hauls. I can understand the potential strain if your running an ATX. With my GS MTX pulling the trailer and motorcycle, I hardly noticed the extra drag (of course a perfectly distributed weight balanced on the trailer makes all the difference). It's only under braking is when I really have to be cognisant of the trailer dynamics.

here is a pic.. of the hitch off the car.. it has some rust on it but that happens to to every hitch you put on a car after about 6months. and the MX3 pulls just fine. I had a 93 1.6L SOHC it pulled my jetski verywell and it with the trailer was about 1100lbs..

How come I never saw you around Belleville pulling the Jetski?? For that matter, did you come out to the meet we had in Belleville last November? Seems we got quite a collection of MX's between Picton, Belleville, Trenton and Brighton. Sorry, end of hijack.

This is the pic of the hitch from the rear. You can see the 'frame-rails' (BLUE) it attaches to, on either side of the trunk (GREY), and where it loops over the muffler (RED)...

 Image

And here's those instructions...
