High RPM Rattling

Post by Black4CylMX3 »

Whenever i hit higher RPMs most of the time, i hear a rattling underneath the car and it causes it to shake and vibrate a noticeable amount. I think it would be something like a clogged cat but i'm not completely sure. Anyone have any idea?

Get a hammer and tap your exhaust... tap the heat plates too. I found that one of my heat plates was rusted and was loose and around 3000rpm it would rattle. It's most likely the plates around your cat.

Yeah i've had the heat shields being loose problem and having it rattle around 3k rpms before, but this is different, like it shakes the entire car, i'm going to check to make sure nothing is loose though.

i bet you it probably just needs a wheel balance...that happened to me on my old car. it only cost like 15 bucks for a balance so might as well get it done anyways

Look at the rear of the car by the muffler, they used a stupid design for the dual output muffler hangers, after time they start to bang against that little tow eye loop metal.

secure it using zip ties or something or drill tap a hole and get a rubber stop with bolt. heres a pic of an idea of where I mean to look -

this is an example see how the hanger will hit the eye loop if vibrating, hope this helps.
