Post by mazdachad »

Is it proven that the kl31 is really better then the kl36 or should i just save the money and get the 36.

From what I have read.. the difference between the two is that the KL31 is for the KLZE in a Manual Transmission car and the KL36 is for the KLZE in a Automatic Transmission car. Engine performance would be the same with either, just depends on the transmission you have.

both the kl31 and kl36 work fine with manual transmission. I havent heard of any proven results on one being better then the other.
You wouldnt be able to use the kl31 on an auto car though.

at a guess, i'd say if anything they would open earlier, auto's need more low down power 'n less top end. Beats me why people are so obsessed by KL31's, to the point of using K8 ecu's for months while waiting for a KL31...... my 2c anyway!

The VRIS points wouldn't even make a difference. This was on Probetalk not to long ago on how to custom program your VRIS points using MSD Window switches. I'll maybe doing this before I drop the ZE in a month or two.

dude you just completely contradicted yourself, you say they dont make a difference so why dump money into having controllable VRIS points?

Yes the points do make a difference.

No, I meant it wouldn't matter if you had a KL-31 or a KL-36 because you CAN customize the points. The VRIS points are probably the biggest factors in KL-ZE performance.

I have a stupid question that has always been in the back of my mind. If all KLZE's are from cars with auto trannys, then shouldn't all the ECU's be for an auto? I've never seen a KLZE without a flex plate so then I've never seen that came from a 5 speed.

I happen to check mine and mine is a KL36 i got from Lazzyie, and it works a hellavalot better than the K8 ecu did, but I guess it's a good combo having the KL01 cams

Mx6.com forum search just resulted is people saying that the KL31 is only for manuals, while the KL36 is for automatic and manuals, no mention about vris points

Not ALL KLZE's are auto, just MOST are, hence no KL31 ecu's available

What's the big deal about VRIS points, most of you put intakes on your MX's, apparently that screws them up anyway??!

WRT VRIS Points:
Aston, are you refering to CAI when you say intakes. If so, I would assume that the Probe chaps also utilize some form of CAI. That being the case, I'm assumimg also that they (Probe guys) are setting the VRIS points to probably overcome/fix/compliment the CAI. They appear quite consistant with their findings as far as regained powerbands and torque with the ability to actually set the openning and closing times on each. I'm quite a novice at this but "Newbie's" attached Probe thread seems quite convincing and for me incites further research into the possibilities.

Ha! nah, it just struck me as funny, here they are worried about using the correct ecu for their engine??! and yet they go and chuck on an intake with negligiable benefit?
CAI??? ha, only if you actually VENT it somewhere!
