i've read about this mod a couple of times and understand that it's purpose is to improve the reliability of our ignition system, but i just don't understand a couple things. what exactly is this hei module and what is it doing to improve the ignition system? also, if our coil is a bad design, why wouldn't you install the new one? is there a down side? call me stupid, but i just never understood.
thanks for any helpful input.
btw, gro where did you get all the parts/prices?

As I understand it.. it does a couple of things.. Cost of parts is extremely low, meaning its cheap to do and easy to replace if you do have a problem down the road. Its far more reliable than the stock unit. HEI = High Engergy Ignition, it came factory on just about every Chevy from 1975 on up. Including mass produced cars like the Chevette. This basically means there is a huge abundance of those modules and that you wont have any problem finding replacement parts anywhere in North America (and maybe even beyond) and as a result of the over abundance of the modules.. the price stays low. If you are wondering if there is a performance gain from this mod.. probably not much of one. There have been people that say they notice a more consistant performance from this setup than from a stock setup. My opinion of this is that the stock setup doesnt perform up to spec usually and as a result makes this mod seem like it adds performance when in reality.. its just making it perform as it should have to begin with.. this is speculation though. Hope this helps.what exactly is this hei module and what is it doing to improve the ignition system?
