Bushfire Season

Post by Grants »

Well the bushfire season is underway here in oz, 9 confirmed dead in South Australia in the last 24 hours. Looking a bit grim in Victoria too. With 40 degree C (105 F) plus temps predicted over the next week I'm sure it will be our turn soon.

At least we have the Erickson sky cranes to water bomb with 9 tonnes per drop. Thanks Canada!

We lease them for the summer, about $10K per hour to operate. Worth every cent! They dismantle them, fly them over in a cargo plane and reassemble. I think it costs about $5M per helcopter a season. We normally have about 3.
