Need help with fuel gauge

Can someone tell me what is wrong with my fuel gauge? When it is full, it works fine, but when it is lower than half, the needle just drops. Tech guys say it is the fuel tank floater or electric wiring. Please help me with a solution. I will buy the fuel tank floater if it is the problem for a resonable price.<BR>Thanx
