93 MX-3 won't downshift automatically

I got the car with the transaxle case missing a large chunk from an impact(?) or so. I purchased a used trans and installed. I have no history with this car and so I have no clue if this problem existed before the trans change. It won't downshift automatically to 1st. Manually shifting is good. There is a flashing hold light on instrument panel, but doesnt react to the button on the shifter. Is there a way to bypass that whole feature???

dude sounds like the transmission you bough might be screwed, with auto tranny problemz its usually best to take it to a specialist, it might even be the wiring.

the flashing hold light is not about the feature, its a message to you that there is something wrong with the transmission. Take it somewhere and get a hydraulic test done. If its not that then you'll probably have to replace the tranny.
