need help fast
im driving downtown to pay a speeding ticket and as i start to move froma stop light i hear a snap from the front right corner and then all i can hear is a loud high pitched noise. to make a long story short...front coil springs (both sides) as well as back (not nec. right now) and rear shocks need to be replaced...the garage whom i trust offered the suggestion of completely redoing my suspension w/ suspension tech lowering springs (1.25") and kyb front struts and rear shocks. all around 1400 cnd w/ labour and taxes. any suggestions or should i go ahead with this? car is undrivable at the moment and i don't feel like fixing my car part by part and continuing to pay labour. any help is much appreciated. she's a 93 RS.

Re: need help fast
You can get a set of KYB struts for $380cdn (corksport.com) and a set of Suspension Technique lowering springs for $260cdn (corksport.com).
That's $640.00cdn for just the parts!! If your mechanic is charging you the standard $70-80/hour...he is nailing you with over 9 hours of labour @ $80.00cdn per hour, it should only take him 2-3 hours MAX to install em'.
I recommend you go buy the parts yourself, then when you get em'....bring them in and tell him to put them on for you. Should only cost you $150-$250 to have everything installed.

Re: need help fast
thanks for the tip. im an idiot for not checking corksport. the quote the garage gave me was: 450.00 for the tech kit
300.00 for front struts
260.00 for rear shocks
225.00 for all labour (seems fair)
plus 50.00 for allignment and shop supplies
they werent overcharging for labour...just getting parts from who knows where i guess
thanks again...also..prices on shipping? im guessing you ordered your kit from there

Re: need help fast
u might wanna go to www.oemfordparts.com and go under vehicle parts > ford raceing > sports compacts > then get the M-18000-Z2 - Tokico Strut kit, all four struts for 150USD, then go to www.nopi.com to get the lowering springs, susp. tech. lowering springs are 170USD, all of this is w/o shipping, altho neither of them charge that much for shiping. www.turbotechracing.com has even cheaper lowering springs.. but i don't know if i would try them... havnt heard ne thing about ne of them... right now i got suspention tech. lowering springs.. worked great... till my tranny went out. i need new struts now tho.

Re: need help fast
shipping is EXPENSIVE TO CANADA, GST, PST, DUTY, BROKERAGE FEES!!!
DONT GET THEM SHIPPED UPS!!!!!!
ship USpost air mail or express post, have it shipped as a gift.
corksport should have experiance with shipping to canada, so ask them to what you should expect to pay.
also you have to pay banks and credit cards to convert to american funds $$$ it costs money as well maybe 2-4 %.
so it could cost you $300-400 to try and save $100-200.
just a thought.
PS. dont gte KYB, get the ZX2 s/r struts, you can order them from your local for dealer or get them from oemfordparts.com, they can help with shipping as well I think, just ask.
