Ractive heat shield intake?

I've had this intake on my car for over a year now... and its pretty dirty now. Is it washable with a regular K&N filter charger kit? I know its a cotton filter, but the thing that bothers me is that is has a metal mesh covering the filter. <p>I did find a place that sells the replacement filters for $30... the crappy part is that I paid $40 for the intake a year ago.<p>http://www.autotoyaz.com/filters.html
