Oh my...I just built a CAI!?
Always wanted one of these, but never done nothing but reading about it, time was finally up when my accordeon cracked.
Here you go, a couple hours and it's done.

I have another tube in chrome, and I am planning to build another CAI. This time I will make a comprehensive step-by-step guide with multiple pictures and information regarding materials needed, problems found etc if anyone wants to build one for themselves.
Feedback about the soon-to-come guide is appreciated.

Just the tube from a Honda Accord, but that really doesn't matter. Get any tube and cut it down just make sure it's long enough. You can twist the tube in any direction desired at the joints with the VAF-unit. Get the proper silicone-couplers and youre good to go.

it looks like the tube is from a 90-93 accord, is that right ?

Does it matter if the vaf is level or angled ??

Couplers needed:

2 of the 77mm-77mm
Use these for the VAF-unit.

1 of the bottleneck 77mm-67mm
Use this for the TB.

Any clamp-on filter can be used, just make sure you can fit a 3 inch tube in it.

The tube is from the early 90's Accord yes.
It's a bit too short and everything is marginal with this specific tube, It can be used, but not much to play with. Get a longer tube and be safe.

Regarding the angle of the VAF.
I talked with a mazda-mechanic, and I was told that if I kept it less than 45 degrees, everything would be fine. So far I have zero problems with my setup.
Well except that now I just drive more aggresive to hear that wonderful sound from the CAI...

The "boost" that kicks in at 4000-4500 rpm, now starts at 2500-3000 rpms. Wonderful.
Don't ask how or why, I don't know, but daym, it's a pretty good feeling!

where did you buy the couplers? that was the most expensive part of my intake fabrication.


My couplers were like $65 for all 3 of them from http://hosetechniques.com & the clamps were like $3 from lowes.

The intake i used was a 88-91 Civic Si intake which gives you a really long pipe w/plenty of various bends that you can use to adapt it to your liking.

I had my intake setup exactly like how yours is when I first installed it. It ended up touching the transmission & wearing a big mark into my tranny case & the air filter.

I noticed better throttle response when i reduced the angle of my VAF to what it is now...although it is still a little off as you can see in the pic.

My couplers was bought in Denmark, cost was about 10 USdollar apiece for the 3". A few days ago I found a shop selling them for 7 USdollar apiece.
The tube was about 75 USdollar.
The filter about 50 USdollar.
Clamps about 2 USdollar apiece.
About 167 dollar in total with everything needed.
But again, the tubes sold in Denmark comes with an insane pricetag. Guess it could be done way cheaper in the states.

I've had this setup done really tight, making sure the filter touches nothing and the transmission is no way near it.

You're blind. He didn't even move his. He went around it. I bought a new $6 overflow tank from Autozone and relocated mine lower in the engine bay just in front of the transmission. The stock one was old and yellowed anyways.

You should really try to make a system with the VAF horizontal, though.

Yeah, I want to know that too. I hear many people saying that the longer intake you have, less throttle response you'll have. Is it so?
