92 v6 automatic; hold lights starts to flash as soon as I put her in drive. She gives me little power and won't shift up from first gear. Everything was fine untill I drove up 250 miles from VA to NY. How do I disconnect the HOLD function?

Re: deactivating hold light disconnect dectivate turn off
You dont need to drive it very much.
I would recommend that you get your tranny serviced very soon.
Also-- You could try disconnecting your battery & stepping on the brake pedal 3x to clear your ECU.
Reconnect your battery & the hold light should have gone away.
You also need to lube your gear shifter on the tranny.
And be sure that your hold button is not pressed on the gear selector before you do any of the above.
You can use the hold button, but use it sparingly. It was designed to keep the car in a certain gear while going up hills or in snowy conditions to keep the wheels from spinning like mad..
It is not wise to drive faster then 40 MPH with the hold button pressed.

Follow Atlanta's advice re ATF fluid ck., servicing, and clearing any stored trouble codes and if you still have the flashing hold light, it's trying to tell ya the tranny control module is storing a diagnostic trouble code and... that means there's trouble of some kind. ID the code and you'll know the prob or post the code(s) here and someone will tell ya more I bet...
