Re: KL - DE
Hm, now I'm confused. One say I can leave it in, and one say I can't leave it in. Why can't I leave it in the engine bay?
On a Volvo it can be done, so why not a Mazda :p
I mean, why not use a jack stand to support the tranny when removing the engine? There are also two engine mounts holding the tranny. The no. 4 engine mount and the no. 2 engine mount.

Re: KL - DE
Engine is out. Though we had to remove it with the tranny on. We found two bolts holding the passenger side drive shaft. But still we couldn't get the engine with tranny out.
So we unbolted the three engine mounts holding the tranny. Also the shift control rod and the extension bar. What we also had to remove was the bracket holding the fuel filter. Of course we also had to remove both crank shafts. With the help of a pray bar we got them out. Then we had no problem getting engine and tranny out.
We removed the seal plate between the engine and the tranny, then the tranny came out easily. We also found that the reason that we couldn't get the engine away from the tranny in the engine bay, was that a third bolt held the passenger side crank shaft extension. That one was located above the crank shaft, so no way to see it from underneath the car.
So, tranny out. Then we removed theflywheel and clutch. Removed the old oil seal. Installed a new one. New clutch (Exedy), and that one come with a very handy centering thingy. That made the insert of the clutch and flywheel much easier.
Then we removed distributor, generator/alternator and power steering from the K8 and installed it on the KL.
Now we have to cut a bit metall and plastic around the crank pulley to get the Unorthodox underdrive crank pulley on. Will do that tomorrow.
Now to my question. From the back of the KL, from the VRIS system, there goes two hoses. They have about the same diameter as the fuel hoses. Where should I connect them? I can't find them on the K8. Only big hoses are the fuel hoses and coolant hoses.
EDIT: Removed the pics. Sorry.

Re: KL - DE
Where in Italy are you? I know there's another guy on the board sometimes from Rimini. Anyways, it is specualted that if you get a 2.5 KLDE and put a airflow sensor (VAF) from a KLDE car, that it will work OK with the OBD2 K8 computer, though it has yet ot be proven I believe. But that's what works on OBD1 MX-3's. Unfortunately, the OBD2 computer from KLDE are not the same. As far as what year you need to get the KLDE out of, any year should work from 1993-2002. Any sensors that might be different, you can just swap straight over from your K8.

Re: KL - DE
Yeah, it's much easier to take the engine with the tranny out. You need to change the clutch, and having the engine and tranny out will do it much easier for you. Pics can be found on my homepage under "Teknik" and "Motorbyte".
I'm waiting for my air intake aluminium pipes from US now. Because I use the K8's intake hose now, and it's squeezed between the battery and the throttle body. That stops 50% of the air into the intake. So I needed a new one

Re: KL - DE
If you happen to get a KLDE from a pre-'94 car, do not use its distributor. Fit the disty from your K8, or you will need to rewire the 3 pin connector.
If the engine has a third coolant sensor in the filler neck, don't worry about it. Your K8 ECU doesn't need it.
I think the most likely place for you to get a used KLDE is Germany; try a Google search.
Buona fortuna

Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!

Not sure what models Mazda and Ford sold in Italy. In the U.S., we look at 93+ Ford Probe GT's, 93+ Mazda 626 ES, 93+ Mazda MX-6, and 93+ Mazda Millenia 2.5LOriginally posted by brakecrasher:

Re: KL - DE
You dont need the engine out of an obd2 car the engine doesnt matter, you just need the obd2 ecu. Or you could probably just use your current ecu and get a 2.5 vaf.
