Oil levels
Oil levels
Hey guys, on my 92 GS with 110K miles, I was wondering if it is coming to have to replace the oil mpre frequently? Do these cars tend to burn a little oil? My bro had an 88 RX-7 and explained that if his car wasn't burning a little bit of oil there may be something wrong. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges (Rotary to a V6)but just curious because sometimes apples don't fall to far from the Mazda tree....<p>Also just a side note, I'm not experiencing any blue-ish smoke from the exhaust or any oil leaks on the ground...

Re: Oil levels
I have a 95 RS and I never burn any oil. It is not a bad thing to not burn oil believe me. If you are not burning oil then you are one of the lucky ones.

Re: Oil levels
On my 92 GS (170k mi.), I typically have to add 2 qts. between oil changes (every 3000). Not sure how typical this is, but just thought I'd give you a reference point.

Re: Oil levels
Very typical, and no you don't have to change the oil any sooner, it eats it fast enough.

Re: Oil levels
The RX-7 engine was designed to constantly burn a little oil. This is because of the basic design of the Mazda rotary engine, as the oil was used to lubricate the gasket seals, but this was a hot on hot application, so there would always be an amount of oil being burned off. That's a very rough explanation, but it should do

Re: Oil levels
I konw I burn oil in my 92 GS, but I thionk it's because I'm in Germany and have to drive the hell out of it to keep up on the Autobahn. The V6 is fast but the 1.8l doesn't get you there very quick.
