problems with mx3 -93

Post by mirage-mx3 »

Hello , i recently have bought a mx3 v6 1.8 -93.. and only drive it like 300miles, yesterday i was mixing with my carstereo and after that the car wouldn't start .. just chewing on the startengine.
i've cheked and there is a good spark , the sparkplugs gets wet so there is fuel comming to the engine, any suggestions? could this be the distributor? can i use the distributor from an "MX-3 1,6 DOHC 16V -97" ?
regards Jari Rautio aka Mirage

No, since that is a four cylinder distributor and you would be short two spark plug wires. ;)
If you're getting spark, then it's not your distributor.
Sounds like you need to undo your "mixing". Kinda hard to give advice when you don't know what sort of wiring mods were made. In case you don't know, you need to disconnect the battery when you're doing this stuff.
[ November 20, 2002: Message edited by: pelado ]

i had the stereo removed and the cables aren't mixed in any strange way that i can notice .. the only thing is that there is a homemade connection from the 12v & grnd cable going towards the steering wheel , i think this is power to the "start-lock" (the best english word i can think of :P ) .. a fuse was blown wich readed "Room 10A" this one is changed .. wierd thing is that the car started immiedately this morning .. can it be that the sparkplugs get too wet ? i'm not a mechanic so plz come with suggestions :> , (the mileage of the car is 10,7k miles)

Something similar happened to me when i swapped, my fuel was waay rich, try pulling the fuel inj fuse and cranking the starter for a bit, then put the fuse back in and start it up, hopefully?

Why would you want to lower the fuel pressure? I think it runs around 44 psi on cold start and then about 32psi when its warmed up. There is a mod you can do to raise the fuel pressure so you "dump" more fuel, but i don't see a reason to lower it.

I always have a prob if I start my GS in cooler weather and shut it down right away...like changing parking spots. When I try to start it again the plugs are soaked. I've tryed the old pedal to the floor while cranking and that seems to work great. I know some NA cars shut down the injectors if there is a WOT signal. I'm not sure if Mazda does the same or if the extra air just dries the plugs off. Something you might want to try before pulling the injector fuse.

the pedal to the floor dosen't work for me :< , if i can't get the car to run at the first try the plugs get soaked and i have to pull the injector fuse to clean up before i can get it started.. this is very irritating when driving in traffic because the car stalls at low rpm's.. then i have to do clean it again before it starts. i have changed airfilter, fuelfilter, oilfilter, battery, plugs & oil .. i was looking for airleaks in the intake part but couldnt find any ..
don't know what to do anymore so i guess i have to leave it in to mazda.. so does anyone have a clue? .. cause otherwise it will cost a lot of $$ :<

well since it seems that you are a "parts changer" anyways, why don't you have the dealor install a new sensor rather than putting a used one in. How do you know the used sensor is a good part? (you get what you pay for)

because the vaf did cost about 600$ for a new unit, and i don't think the vaf is a common problem so there is 2 in a row that is broken, anyway i didnt think the vaf was the problem in first place but the service dealer said it was faulty and i had to give it a try.. because i'm out of ideas
