Length of time for 1.8v6 - 2.5 swap
Length of time for 1.8v6 - 2.5 swap
At our shop we have a customer that wants to drop a 2.5 in his 1.8 v6 MX3. Is this a lengthy swap? Do all the electronics hook right up?
I read the info @ mx3.com/swap and it was super helpfull. I just need to know the time it takes to do the swap for a really goos mechanic but a first time Mazda job. We specialize in VW and turbos normally.
thanks alot for your help.
Karim
[ September 17, 2002: Message edited by: Karim ]

Providing you have everything you need as far as tools and parts are concerned, and if everything goes without a hitch, you could easily do it in a day. However the nature of this job means it rarely goes off without a hitch.
Being a good mechanic will make it a lot easier, and I have heard of several amateurs doing it at home in a weekend.
hope that helps

Do you use the same wire harness? That is the main concern cause we all know that wiring is the pits!
Thanks again.
Re: Length of time for 1.8v6 - 2.5 swap
yes you can use the same wiring harness but if it is a 92-93 mx3 then the fan temp sensor is in the water inlet so a whole will need to be tapped, the knock sensor needs to be swapped over if it is a klze engine, i did it in my buddies garage in 5 days and i suck at this kinda stuff, tell em to get a new clutch too if its a manual

Re: Length of time for 1.8v6 - 2.5 swap
The ZE swap into my 93 did not require any modifications for a temp sensor, the ZE had all the MX-3 required.
The knock sensor worked just fine where it was, I just had to re-route the connector from one end of the engine to the other (this only required moving the connector through the labyrinth of intake runners, no re-wiring involved).
I coulda got lucky, who knows?

[ September 17, 2002: Message edited by: pelado ]
