Stand Alone Fuel Mangagment System
What is a "stand alone fuel management system"? I have heard SO many people talk about it, but nobody can actually tell me what one is. I'd love to figure this out. Thanks alot guys

it's a programmable setup that lets you customize your fuel map. this way, you can run higher boost levels because you have a more precise a/f ratio. it evens helps on n/a cars (but not as much) because at wot the car(stock ecu) has a preset map for the air/fuel ratio so it's not reading the air flow input signal.
Fast imports only come on two wheels.

There are also versions that are 3d and allow you change stuff according to load as well, giving yet another tuning factor.

what kind of gains do our 1.8s or 2.5s see out of these? I know my friends h22a gained 8hp and 9tq at the wheels with a V-AFC, which would be more than us due to the vtec control it has, but would we see close to that much or no?

I would have to say once you have highly modded the car, the FMS would be useful, but for all practical purposes, I woul consider it a waste of money. [img]shrug.gif"%20border="0[/img]

I was just asking what one was. What it consisted of, and how it works.

From what I understand, it gives you the ability to adjust fuel pressure, air/fuel, and I'm sure a few other things....I would probably wind up blowing up my car with one so I never looked it up.

The "stand-alone" fuel management systems replace your stock ECU. Most of them use MAP sensors to replace the VAF, which is a quick HP gain.<BR>Like someone said the S-VFC piggybacks on your stock ECU and gives you some tuning capability.<BR>A word of caution, you'd better know someone else that has installed the exact same system on the exact same vehicle as yours or else the development time will be long and expensive. That's why one poster had the $10K comment. By the way, you need to lighten up just a bit! <P>A friend has the Link system on his Miata. He got a break on the price since his MX-5 was used as a development mule for the Link system. He now recommends the Haltech II (there's a III out now) but warns about the development time. This could translate to quite a few hours on the dyno and that ain't cheap!
