Yes, the detectors do work, however only for Radar, not laser. Jammers on the other hand don't work at all (and if they do, they are very illegal). This taken from an acquaintance of mine who works for Kustom Signals (they make the radar guns for the police):<p>"I work for Kustom Signals the worlds leader in making police radar. No none of those work period. Most of them when they come out we buy them and check them out. A lot of them don't do anything but light up (just parts and junk). If it really broadcasts and jams you better have an fcc license to use it. Get cought with one ( and there are some out there that reayy work ) you will get a fine you will not believe and in some cases that I know of you will/can lose your car"<p>Just thought I'd post that little tidbit :)

Alberta is pretty slack about radar detectors. They are begining to use SWF (safety warning system) and since most new detectors come with it they look at it as a good thing. If there is an accident ahead the detector will warn you of it. I have a voice radar detector so it actually says,"Accident Ahead" or "Police in Pursuit". There are about 64 different ones. I was thinking of placing sensors around the car but I haven't gotten around to doing it.
