I'd check for spark first before getting all excited. If no spark, do the HEI conversion. Don't waste your time and money on a rebuilt / used disty. I just did mine, and it's the best money spent so far!

Try AC Delco p/n 510-690, list price is around CDN $70 each, but you should be able to find them cheaper. Put some on my ride this winter, and my head never felt soooo good!!

YES, almost all cars (except toyota) use a standard 18mm x 1.5 thread, the other size is 12mm x 1.25, but I have yet to see a car that uses that.
