Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
Will do... I do prefer a manual drive however my poorness has dictated what I must drive for now. Once the ATX is fixed I can focus on the car itself and see if I want a V6 5-speed version

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
Ryan, I understand where you are coming from and I will not dispute your points as they are valid. What I did was got ahold of a company that sells valve bodies. I explained via email to a gentleman my exact issues, make and model of the car as well as the engine and transmission. He responded by ...

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
That's just it... it's just a get back and forth to work car with a 4cyl... If I wanted fun then I would get another 280zxt ;) I am not looking to put money into this car... it's decent for what it is and when running right gets good mpg's. Now if I could find a V6 model with a 5-speed then that's a ...

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
It's not that bad... once you disconnect the electronics and then unbolt the valve body, it drops right out. My buddy and I did this on the '78 Camaro when we did the shift improver kit and also on his '87 Monte Carlo SS for the same thing. I don't remember if there were electronics in those but the ...

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
Thank you Ryan... Between the last two responses I think I have the majority of the info I need to begin my search. However... these "wires" that need to be run for the MTX, what are they for? I could care less about a neutral safety switch, I am smart enough to push the pedal as I start the car but ...

I have a 1992 1.6L SOHC with the ATX.
What is my engine designation or series code? Fill in the blank "_______"
If I were to look at a "1992 1.6L SOHC MX-3 with a 5-speed" What would that transaxles exact code be? "_______"

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
This is my first Mazda... It would be fine IF there was no trans issue...
My 1992 V6 5-speed Chevy Camaro was one of the better cars I have owned.
My cars:
1978 Camaro with a 350 V8 - Great car.
1972 Pontiac Formula Firebird with a built 455 H.O. Wrecked it.
1967 Ford Fairlane 500 with a F.I. 5.0 ...

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
That still does not answer my questions directly. I could figure it out with direct answers. I am not hating the car, just the fact that a major car manufacturer could engineer something so worthless and then sell it to the masses. Mazda made one of the greatest cars of all time, the RX-7 and then ...

When the time comes and if it can make it to GA, I will not be selling this MX-3... I will hop in my friends lifted '87 Chevy Short Wide 4x4 and start at the front and drive over this heap. Rest in Peace... no way, rest in pieces.

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
Uggghhh! My brain hurts!! I just read all 7 pages on that transaxle swap thread. Too many people asking about the same thing in different ways has blurred all the numbers. I will ask a few short questions and move on...

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
I drove the car up on ramps today... drained exactly 3 quarts of ATF which looked slightly brownish pink but still smelled ok. Filled it back up with 2.5 quarts so that it is correct on the dip stick. Shifts smooth as butter from first to second now... alas, no 3rd or 4th.
Honestly, should I try to ...

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
After doing some reading on the web it says 13.2 gallons... so that takes me down quite a bit... maybe the low 20's per gallon around town. ouch. Where are they hiding those 3.2 gallons??

Re: I read a lot... Flashing Hold light... please read.
When I filled it up it took just a hair more than 8 gallons... it was just under a quarter of a tank when I did this so I am guessing it's a 10 gallon tank.

Seems good to me... somewhere around 28-30mpg, and that's in town driving, stop and go the whole time.
