Before you take it apart, do a compression test. Also check for water in oil, oil in water.

checking auto tranny 92 mx3

I have no manual and I need to check the fluid level/condition in my Mother-in-law's Mx3. Can someone give me some advice? It has an auto transmission and its a 92 with 1.6L motor.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice Yoda. We will check out the tranny fluid. I noticed the car makes a clunk noise (front left) when put into drive. I figured this is probably a worn CV shaft. The car has a lot of miles but seems to shift fine.

92 mx3 Idle stalls when in gear

Car runs great except when it's put in gear it drops in idle. IT will almost die, but not quite, then it will creep back up but remains too low. It has a new battery, the alternator is putting out good voltage. It also has a new maf sensor and has been recently tuned up with new plug wires, cap and ...

found it!

I found what I was looking for. The gauge sender is the little guy in the front of the block to the right of the exhaust manifold. I had disconnected the wire somehow. Put the wire back on and the gauge works fine. So the part I busted was obviously the fan temp switch.

Temp Gauge Problem

92 MX3 1.6L Auto

I just fixed my Mother in law's mx3, she had a bad distributor. While putting the new disty in I busted the temp sensor at the thermostat just below the disty. Okay, so I went to the parts store with the busted part and they matched it. At least I think they did.

I put the new ...

We put the disty in this morning and it started right up. Timed the engine and it is running fine now.

Thanks for the offer.

We cancelled our order with Rock Auto and got a used one off Ebay for $30. Should have it back together this weekend, hopefully that was the problem.

Changing the ignition module was my first choice until I found it was $95. So to be sure I had the engine diagnosed with a scanner and it showed a failed distributor. If the module was around $20 like on most GM cars I would have swapped a new one in and kept one for a spare in case that wasnt the ...

Thanks Tunes. Sorry for not searching for the timing, I should have known better. Timing procedure sounds simple enough. The parts stores dont stock the distributor so I will measure what I can and if it isnt the correct part we will order the other one.

What Distributor for 92 MX3?

Hi All,

Well the scanner at the shop confirmed what Neutral suspected...bad distributor.

I towed the little car back to my shop with my Scout and now I am going to replace the distributor. Apparently there are two distributors, the difference being the rotor shaft diameters. Do you guys know ...

Okay, that helps. We will soon find out. I found a shop with a new snap on scanner, they said for $65 they will find out exactly what part is bad. Since the computer was rebuilt just 6 mos ago I wanted to be sure it wasnt the computer as it is still under warranty.

I saw new distributor for sale ...
