OBDI, OBDII or a mix ??? CEL related.

Hello

I have a Canadian 1996 mx3 with the 1.6L and I'm trying to decode my check engine light but I'm having issues.

1. It has an OBDII connector on the passenger side, but my reader displays ''error'' when I try to decode it.

2. My car has the diagnosis plug in the engine bay by the firewall, but when I jump the ''ten'' and ''gnd'' terminals, turn on the ignition (without starting the car), the light never flashes.

3. Last I checked the O2 sensor was a 2 wire one. ( so I assume it's OBDI)

I'm just confused by all this and I can't get that darn light to turn off.

Also, I'm curious what does the vacuum line that connects to the left side of the air box ( the side closest to the engine)

Thanks

Is your code reader the proper protocol like ISO9141? That vac line is probably to the fuel pressure regulator.

It's an Innova 3100, not sure how to tell if it's ISO9141 compliant. I'm using the plug on the passenger's side near the center console.

And I checked again, the oxygen sensor on the exhaust is a 4 wire one.
