Might get a GS
Hey everyone. Someone on my island is selling their 94 MX-3 GS. Only thing is that it has 170,000 miles on it. How long does these cars last?. I had 147,000 miles on my RS, All I had to change is the distributor, Struts, brakes and the clutch was going but I crashed it before doing anything else. How does the GS compare to the RS, About the same amount of gas milage right? 30mpg? I would like your opinions

Re: Might get a GS
buy it
my GS has 245,000KM on it..just do routine maintence and check it over real good first

Re: Might get a GS
How much is he looking for it? The GS will handle slightly better than an RS. (As long as things are in good shape) Do a ZE swap if the engine isn't runnin well!

Re: Might get a GS
Hes asking $2400.00 for it.The clear coat is lifting on the paint all over the car, There is a little ding on the hood and rust, With 170,000miles and a new paint job needed I would give this person $1500.00 for it, Is this a fair amount? And if anything I wish I could swap a V4 motor in there since I am trying to save gas. But I believe the GS is good on gas..

Re: Might get a GS
A V4 would be totally awesome... how come we always have rectangular blocks and never perfectly cubic ones? If I design an engine, it will be square. Thats not meant to be mockery, its a cool idea even if you thought of it by mistake.
You mean I4
V6 refers to the physical shape of the block and direction of the cylnders. 6 cyls, V shape.
I4 is 'straight(Inline) 4' meaning all in line.
Buy that car! It will most likely need suspension and brakes and all that good stuff, but so would every other car... and you'll want to do that when you lower it and put on a big brake kit to fill in your 18" rims anyway
I've read lots on here about these working up on the 300 000 miles.
Don't pay 2400 though, espcially with toasted paint and if the engine is rough...

Re: Might get a GS
Well, parts aren't everywhere in Hawai'i... but for any car really. I say buy it, too. Make a lower offer, like $1800, and go from there. The dealer wanted $4000 for mine, and I got it for $2000. I'm a great negotiator, though. The MX-3 is a great car for Hawai'i, unless you Kayak. It handles well on the wet, sometimes slimy roads, and will take the hills well. Which island are you on?

Re: Might get a GS
Hey everyone, I got to check out the car today. Other than the dent on the hood, toasted paint everything is all nice. Checked the oil to see if it was milky in case of a gasket or cracked block but it was okay, The car has 180,000miles holy smokes but I checked the service papers and everything is up to date, serviced regularly and oil changed regularly, When I test drove the car it was awesome I felt like I was in heaven since I didin't drive an MX3 for almost a year after my accident in my RS MX3. The owner had installed an exhaust on the car and it sounds beautiful, nice and low growl, It sounds very loud in the car. I didin't really get to drive it much but I need a sleep on this. Im planning on running 50,000miles more on this car if I get it. I am going to use it as a commuter, not planning to race it, Just a street cruiser. I don't know what do you folks think?

Re: Might get a GS
im using mine as a commuter for school..i have 256,xxxKM's and still the odometer jus keeps goin.....................any car will last if you take care of it..and it SOUNDS like that car was better taken care of than mine...i baught mine with noisy lifters, clogged air filter fouled spark plugs and the list goes on.....if balljoints and any major repairs that usually hafto be done on ANY car once they reach the 150,000mile mark have been done than i think you will be set...could always talk the guy down in price some more too:shrug:

Re: Might get a GS
Sounds like a deal. Did you make an offer?
If it's rainy where you are, look up how to clean out the sunroof drain, if it gets wet inside,
I lived on O'Ahu, in Manoa valley for about 4 years, until I got "Island fever". I love to travel. I had an RX-7 there, and I think the GS is almost as fun.
