I am thinking of cutting a piece of SPL board the same size as the spare tire cover. I want to leave my spare tire there so I am thinking of getting this subwoofer which is shallow mount http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... TS-SW3041D I am lazy/inexperienced and do not want to make fiberglass bottom... will it sound like garbage if I just mount it over this space? Will the weight of the wood and some foam sealing around the spare tire cover be suitable? I will minimize rattle by securing it down and making sure the spare tire is secured. I don't want to make a shotty box but I want to get my heavy 2x12 box out of my trunk!

That's basically what I did. I put one piece of MDF just to cover the wheel well space. And fiberglassed it around to make it air tight. Then I put another MDF cover board, covering the whole trunk. And put a 15" Earthquake Magma on top. Sure I probably won't get it's potential, but it's loud enough for me.
