need to put A/C on my car...MX-3 V6

Hi all,

I wrote awhile ago about the compressor of my car, well the thing that my mechanic did for my car really got screwed big time, and so i ended up taking my car to a Mazda dealer and ended up buying a new compressor for my 93 car. According to them, my A/C still works and that the lines are okay and so far none are broken and all that, but the problem is, is that it needs an R12 freeon or something.

Does anyone know where I can get one of this? I am in Toronto, and maybe anyone who knows who can point me to it.

Many thanks,
snooze

You can convert our systems over to the newer type of refrigerant. Talk to a shop that does AC work and not Mazda. They don't mess with upgrading cars often, sticking to warranty work on new cars and the stupid who pay twice as much to have a mechanic work on thier old car. I know you are not stupid, just looking for a solution and thinking Mazda should know best about your car, but I doubt your problem is something they deal with often.

Perhaps Mexico?

I can't believe they didn't inform you about this before you had them put on the new compressor. Typically a 'retrofit' from R12 to R134A will cost at least a grand, as the shop has to evacuate the system and replace several components of the system, replace seals, check for leaks and recharge with the new R134A refrigerant. I'd bet they evacuated your A/C system to replace the compressor and left it empty. As far as I know, charging a system with R12 is illegal in Canada. They probably left the compressor unplugged too so that it wouldn't cycle the compressor on and off, meaning that you paid them to install the very expensive equivalent of a pulley.

:?

Good luck anyway. A/C really is a pain.
