Well, I crashed the black SE. Way to ****ing go David. Got hit turning left on a yellow at what felt like 50-60kph.

I don't have damage pictures right now... But I want to get your oppinions on if SGI is going to write it off or not. Basically he got my back end and smashed the bumper cover up. also, did something to my new (stock) exhaust cause it sounds bad now. The worst of the damage unfortunately is the frame.... He hit me hard enough to spin 540* and park me in a front lawn..... Its bent so that the gap between the trunk lid and the back fender is 0" on one side, and then like .375" on the other...

What do you guys think? If they total it I might buy it back and get the frame straightened.... How much does it generally cost for something like that? All my doors, trunk, windows, etc open/close properly still. My wheel allignment seems like its still good, the car doesn't drift in either direction.

as long as ur ok :) everything else is replaceable. You dont really want a bad mx3 if its got a bad frame..

well, is a deflection like that really all that bad? I can't really imagine it doing anything to the car except looking kinda weird.

I think a proper frame is required for safety certification, at least in ontario.

OK!

well speaking of experiance here...

Mine was good to go (not totalled), and its a 92 GS. This is BEFORe they found some "extra damage". After that, it was totalled.

Some frame damage they will pull apart or replace...most likely what happend was the rear frame rails were crushed on impact. If you want to find out how bad it is before inspection, take a look behind the rear wheels, under the car. Also, look in the trunk, in the back corners.

You have a special edition as well, so they will also have a higher cut off (the price at which they will total it). Mine was 3500, but depending on km's, condition, freatures, the price fluctuates.

Sucks tho, i'll have to check it out at school sometime. Join the total-loss mx-3 club hahah.

Thanks Vanished, that is encouraging. I am fairly certain your frame damage was worse than mine because of where the back pillars buckled like that. Then again, mine might be that bad but sideways as he hit me at an angle.. .I haven't really tried to look at it too much. It hurts me just to see the car. :(

Yes, I know a proper frame is required... I'd get it fixed if I bought it back. I'm still thinking its worth it since I found a Black SE and I feel really bad about getting in a wreck that was partially my fault in the first 3 months of driving it.

I was more worried he would beat the crap out of ME.

Ok, I finally got around to taking some quick pictures. It doesn't look nearly as bad on the screen for some reason :P Maybe I'm just freaking out cause I hurt my car.

Its difficult to see whats going on with the frame, but in "damage3" you can see that the gap between the left side of the hatch and the body panel is too wide. The gap on the right side is basically non existant.

Looking at "damage1" you can see where the bottom panel is shifted to the left, it no longer lines up with the tail lights.

What do you guys think? I'm guessing SGI is going to set the cut-off price around $3500-$4000.

Did you get it estimated at SGI yet? Did you look under the car, or in the trunk to see if the frame rails are damaged?

Its going to be 4000 or more CUT-OFF. That means you'll get way more for the car...probably 6000.

I wouldn't be worried if i was you. It'll be ok.

Yeah, I understand the cutoff thing. But this car is worth a lot more than 6K to ME. Anyways, I did take a quick look under the rear bumper but my garage is sorta dark and I wasn't sure what I was looking at. I'll take a better look tomorrow maybe. From what I could tell nothing seemed obviosuly screwed up. Also looking in the trunk I didn't really see anything either. Why don't you take a look at it at school tomorrow? I'll put it in the parking lot and I"ll wait a few minutes after school for you.

Oh right, I'm taking it to SGI on the 14th.

Dude, if I ever get rear-ended I am going to claim I have neck injuries and get a $20,000 settlement from the insurance company
I can buy another MX3 for that money and it will go to college aswell

I didn't actually get rear ended... I would compare it to a high speed PIT manuever where the cop had a little too much coffee.... and he was driving one of those fancy new chargers..... :p
