You have a 96.. that will be a OBDII car. There are others that may be able to help.. and maybe turboing a OBDII car is easier in someways.. I dont know.. but the vast majority of the cars on this site are prior to 96 and are OBDI. So be prepared for some differences and you may also run into issues where you could be the first person to do something to the OBDII setup. In any case.. the best thing to do would be to start with a bit of research. The search function will reveal many threads from years of prior instances of MTX swaps and turboing the B6 engine. I would probably start reading up on OBDII Differences first if I were in your shoes. Best of luck.

chances are you might have to swap your entire wiring harness out. you need to look at the diagrams of both MTX and ATX to know for sure. seccond you will need the MTX ECU. but since your car is a 96 you will need a 96 ECU to replace it with. you might be able to use one from a Protege. but again you would have to look at a wiring diagram to know for sure. it could be messy, but it could be really easy. not enough people wiht 96's doing swaps to know for sure. but i would figure out the MTX swap first then go with the Turbo. unless you have gobs of money laying around and you can just get a Full Stand alone fuel management system and do the swap then.

Hey i did the atx to mtx swap and now i'm researching to turbo the engine but start by puting a mtx in there.
I bought a 94 MX-3 from the scap yard for a parts car to do the mtx swap.I got it for 500$ ..it was a lot easyer that way because I had all the parts.
I suggest that if you want to turbo to get a bether tranny then the one from the mx-3 i heard the ones from the ford escort GT fit in are cars and are pretty tuff.
if you need help just message me.

you have to mod your Jack shaft (or stub shaft) on the passenger side axel if you want to run the Escort GT tranny or the Protege LX tranny (they are the same). They wont directly bold up to a 1.6L as the block is about 1" shorter in length. If i were you i would find a 96' Kia 1.8L DOHC, they are really really cheep. and buy a motor and trans out of that then change the valve cover, as it is a Mazda engine and trans. way easier, and the tranny is a little bit stronger than the G25 out of the Pro LX and Escort GT. its bassed off of the 99' MS Protege trans, and the Mazda Speed LSD is almost a direct swap into it. and the axels have a larger spline count making them a little beefier. and looking for a Kia Trans vs an Escort GT or Pro LX trans is about 300 to 400 dollars differance. we just picked one up for a buddys build for 250 shipped with 6K on it, its cleen as hell.

What you should do is a AT--> MTX Swap, Then turbo the B6 with built everything, And then to the rear Drum to Disk swap, and then you can do a AWD Swap, then after you do the AWD Swap you can do a built 2.0L BP swap for the B6.... And after you do all that you can look back and figure why you did all of that instead of just going BP-T and AWD to begin with.....

lol

I was thinking of building up the B6 and putting a turbo on it but now that I read more about the BP i'm not sure I want that engine anymore....How much difrent is the BP?? is it just boared biger?
