Ive got a single 12 inch mtx roadthunder sub right now, they sound good and are 100 bucks a pop. Anyone bump to these subs while cruising at all? It's either these subs or some other type of sub.

Personally, for low end subs I prefer Kicker subs. MTX and Rockford make good amps, but I wouldn't use either of thier subs or speakers if they paid me.

i had a pair of road thunder 7000 10" subs, those were the best subs i ever had, hit 143db with 500 wats going to each, they were way ahead of their time, lasted five years before i blew them up. running 2 clarion signature series 12".

wow not bad. I was thinking about 3x subs in the back but i seriously doubt I could fit three. 143 db is pretty good! haha

Was the 143 on the old microphone SPL meter, or the newer SPL box?

old school mtx subs aren't as shytty as newer ones. If I had a limited sub budget and needed neew ones. I would buy a used better sub from ebay or a car stereo forum website like forum.sounddomain.com .

Mtx subs aren't quite up to par as they used to be. However MTX's Thunder TA series amps are serious buisness.

Fosgate? Pfffft they went way down the tubes. Their head tech now works and has for quite some time for MTX. 143db isn't to bad for 2 12's but for comparison i hit 149.3 with 2 12" memphis m3124d's in my mx-3 before switching to a single 15" memphis MOJO and hitting 150db. Yes that is on the new meter...

Actually You are all incredibly wrong about MTX product, the old stuff was good but had a poor heat relieve design so power handling would be affected and they commonly would blow up if over powered. Dont get me wrong the subs and amps worked great but not like they do now.

the new MTX subs and amps are very good product especially our MXS series stuff. WE have MZ series in subs and MX series in subs and trust me they take 20 times the beating and still keep on going comapred to older stuff. The new technology that MTX is using the past 3 years now is called SPIDER PLATEAU VENTING which helps to relieve heat alot faster and more efficiently so the subwoofer can handle tons more power and keep on sounding like it did after the first time it was worked in.After MTX came out with this line of subs and amps my return rate for there product was less than 2% compared to 12-15% yearly. this was from blown subs mostly.

yes I am part of MTX show team but I also carry and install alot of other company products but in the end for most power for your money and quality for your money nothing else compares.

No offense man but I'm in the competition circuit to, mainly SPL, I am part of TEAM RENOTS. Anyway long story short in all the years I've been competitng very seldom have i seen MTX products used, furthermore I have seen even less win.

I gave credit to MTX for theyre amps but they're subs A: Don't really sound that good. and B: Can't compete with other SPL subs and actually last.

I will say that I have seen one sub win and rarely break for the most part and when they do its usually with 4 times the power they are rated for. That being said memphis. No matter what model it is they all seem to at least handle twice they're rated power and give superior lifespan and results.

I personally get Kicker and MTX at a very handsome discount, however kickers dicount is better. If prices were matched it would be a No brainer to use MTX amps, but they aren't. I also get other numerous brands at discount and I have no brand loyalty. I use what works. Just to show how unbiased i am I can honestly tell you that personally all of kickers subs save the solo-x also suck reliability wise, and most can not handle the power they are rated for.

Yes, they suck for SPL. But personally, I think the Comp lines are decent for entry level subs with good SQ if you put them in alot bigger box that Kicker recommends. Personally, I model my own boxes because I don't trust the box recommendations of most manufacturers anymore. I've never, ever put any sub of any size in a box smaller than 1.4 cubes before. All these subs that claim .5 cubic foot boxes and crap is BS. When you model them in sealed boxes that small, they have ridiculously high QTS of like 1.0. I'm not putting no sub system with a 1.0 QTS in any car of mine.

I agree on the comp subs, they do sound good. I personally use 3 cvx 12"s in 2.1cubic per sub however they're power handling is overrated.

Yeah. The only way to get rated power is to put in a minimum recommended size box and put a subsonic filter on it.
