Race without wastegate
Race without wastegate
Is it safe to run a few 1/4 mile runs with the wastegate line closed?
This way I can get more than the factory boost.
Thanks

It's there to slow the speed of the turbine shaft for a reason - to control boost pressures. I wouldn't run it like that all the time. You are just putting added wear / tear and risking major damage to the engine. You should invest in a boost controller rather than engines.nolig2278 wrote:Would the car really overboost within the 15 sec of a 1/4 mile.
I seem to think no. It might hit 18psi and I hear that is not a help to the bpt but it should not blow at 18psi right?
I have runa couple times on highway without the wastegate and I have seen it creep but I kept it to under 18 psi

if you know then why did you ask the question?nolig2278 wrote:Would the car really overboost within the 15 sec of a 1/4 mile.

well if your running a VJ20, then its really only good to 18psi at the max anyways. 15psi is like the max for safe continous use on that turbo. but anyways, it will over boost and if the turbo shaft doesent brake at which they seem to do at 18psi quite often, it will blow your motor.
if you want to control your boost that bad you can buy a home made manual boost controller off of e-bay for like 10 bucks. they look cheep as hell but they work. or you can go to the home depo and pick up some stuff to do it yourself. over boosting is not cool. the waist gate is there for a reason.

YES!, unless your only running 1/2 to 1/4 throttel the entire way down the track. Its not better, and its not cool, unless you like to spend money and change your engine alot.

Listen dude, you need to buy a boost controller either manual or electronic and stop risking blowing up your engine by having the wastegate disconnected. It is designed for a purpose.

I hate to say this but.....
This is pretty sad.....
I would take every precaution to make sure nothing blows and even if it is a cheap manual boost control i still wouldn't get it. I like the electronic ones cause my friend had a manual boost controller somehow fail on him and he blew the motor. Than again my friend was an idiot. lmao. making me wonder why he is my friend. Ok guys gotta think this friend thing over lol.

He wants to see the carnage when your motor blows up. It only takes one second for the boost to spike and blow a motor. saying that you "watch" the boost gauge while racing wont do you much good. you should be watching where youre going!!nolig2278 wrote:What are you referring to?Rick Johnson wrote:It's totally safe, you should do it, and you should probably record it.
